The four bandits who en, Thuisday rob bed the Bioehflcld bank were captuied at 0 o'clock Friday meniinjr.aTheir pursuers liad an all-night's tide and it was. an ex citing chase. . The jebbciy was a very bold allair. An alley inns by the bide of the building. The bandits lett their horses in this alley in charge of one of their num ber and with masks en their faces the ether three walked into the bank. One took his stand at the deer with a icelver in each hand, while his compn.iieus turned their attention te the occupants. The only persons in the loom weie Cashier Jehn Ferd and 3Iiss Canie Scott, his assistant. They looked up from their weik te see the bariels of two rcrelvcib stating them in the face. A sudden and peicmpteiy demand for the money was the first warning of the picseuce of the bandits, and though ac first disposed te demur Mr. Ferd seen taw that his visiteis weie in such dead earnest that compliance was the only alternative, and leluetantly he hr.aded ever such parts of the funds as vteic in sight and for which lepeatcd de mand was made some $4,000 or $3,CC0 in geld and silver and ban: notes. As the ci ewd gathered the bandit at the deer nourished his weapon and warned people away. In a moment or two he and two ethers, aimed and masked like himself, came out of the bank and made their way aieuud the corner and down the alley, wlicrc their horses were in charge of the fettith bandit. The excitement called out everybody, and a few of these bavins: aims of any kind at hand ran around the coiner te lire at the lebbeis, but te no effect. The lire was returned, sopje fifteen or twenty shots be ing exchanged, but the robbers evidently only intended te intim'dalc their pursuers and cover their own ictreat. Immediately pm suit was organized. At the first alaim thrce or four men, headed by Maishal McAithur, made for horses and arms, and the robbers get onlyasheit stait of them. An Insect That Walls ltseir Up. In answer te an inquiry made of him our learned scientific friend, Dr. It ithven, writes as fellows : W. U. Hexsel, EbQ. Lear Sir : The curious little worms, enclosed in a gravel covered follicle, which you and your edi torial companions recently ebseived in a spnng in JMiinkJin county, ate commonly called "cadd ice-worms" or "case-worms," and are the larva: of a Ncuroptcrous(uervo Ncureptcrous(uervo Ncuroptcreus(uervo wiuged) insect, commonly called ' caddice flics," of which there are various species, the most common of which, pcihaps, in this latitude is the Phryganea Cinerea of Mr. "Walker. They are tolerably abund ant in nearly all the springs thiougheut Lancaster county, especially the south ern portion of it, as Gen. Steinmau some years age sent me a large number fiem a spiing en his farm in Mai tic town ship. Most likely, however, it may be the Phryganea Scmifaciuta of Mr. Say. Species cannot be deteiniiucd with out having the specimens of the mature insect. Theic arc four-winged flies, from 23 te 23 millimeters in length, and hem-lt te 52 in alar-espansien, which means from tip te tip of the expanded wings. The gen- cial characters aie, long antenna, com pressed body, wings longer thau the body, nerved longitudinally v. it'n a few tiaus vci?c veins, aud generally of a grayish, biewnish and blackish color, but net very brilliant. Their flight is sluggish aud they aie usually found near ponds, sticams and springs of water, in which the larva) or wei ins aie feuud. Their development is very inteiesting. The feniale fly deposits her eggs cither en the water or en some plant or ether object in the water, and as seen as the young wenn issues liem the egg it seeks the bottom of the peel aud begins te ceustiuct a seit of oblong cocoon out et finely spun silk or v. ebbing, and as the body of the insect .increases in sue, it incicascs the length and diameter et its case, incoiperatiug with it, en its outer surface, small particles of whatever it may find en the bottom of the peel or spring ; if sandy, it will be covered with the Iaiger grains of sand or gravel. But if such ma tciial is net at hand it will use small por tions of leaves, leaf steins, weed, or any thing it can conveniently appropriate. The fly makes its appearance annually in June, July and August, according te species or ether circumstances, but their lives aie short ; duriug the larger pait of the year (ten months or mere) they aie found in. the water, in the feim of case or caddice worms.
