LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER TUESDAY MAY 30,1882. TOBACCO. THK LOirAL MAKKLT liL'LL. tew Sales or Old Lear Tue New Crep Very Backward. We have another dull week's business te report. Only a few small sales of old tobacco are reported and they were dis posed of en private terras. Buyers con tinue te pick up a few lets of what is left et the crop of 1881, the quality of their purchases being mostly of a low or medium tirade. The interest of our farmers cen tres just new mere in the coming cr6p than' in that of last year. The exceptionally backward spring has greatly retarded their operations. The plants, except these of hot-heuso growth are small, and as a consequence compara tively few have as yet been set out, and al though the first of June is upon us it is safe te say that net one fiftieth part of the plants are yet iu the fields.. Celd weather and excessive rains have kept back tobacco planting at least two weeks. New Yerk Marker. U. s. Tobacco Journal. " Duller than ever before known," is the universal statement in the raaiker. The stagnation could hardly be greater. Any sales that were made were, individu ally, se small that they are net worth specifying. Oae or two city cigar manu factmers visited the market, but, as far as could be learned, they purchased nothing of any consequence. Havana A moderately fair tiade has been done, with no large but several small sales. Pi ices remain unchanged. Cans' Itepert. Sales of seed leaf tobacco reported by J. S. Seed Leaf Anether week gene, and se far iu the mouth of May a decided larger business has been done in cigar leaf than usual ; iu fact, were it possible for dealers te carry the stock desired, the aggregate would show up splendid. Dealers gen erally report si very encouraging outlook for the balance of the year; se much se that the indications new point te a favor able issue of the new leaf, which, it must be admitted, packers paid a geed round price for iu the field.
