LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGEKGER FRIDAY APRIL 28, 1882. Hancaster intelligencer. FBIDAY EVENING, APRIL 28, 1882. The Creps Ter 1882. Tbelr Prospects Untllned by ilie Mew Yerk Times." The small grains, despite bad spriDg weather, premise well. Winter wheat will give an increased yield in nearly every state except Indiana, Ohie and New Yerk. The last-named only will produce much less than the average. Spring wheat is much mere flattering in its premise. In the great grain states west of the Mississippi the increase is especi ally marked, in some cases as much as 50 per cent. In some of the old grain states, ether grains are replacing wheat barley, eats, and rye especially. In all these a large increase in acreage is re ported and premise a large crop. Insects and rust are reported in some places, but only in Tennessee is much alarm felt. Lern shows a very large increase iu nearly every state where it is cultivated at all. In the North it bharcs te some extent in the dis placement of winter wheat, and in the Seuth it is replacing cotton te some' extent. Emigration and the pushing of railroad construction arc prominent facteis in the increase of the grain fields. Cotten is expected te give at least an average crop. The area devoted te it is much smaller, floods, a partial abandon abanden incut of the " all cotton " system, and the inability of planters te obtain sufficient supplies work together te this result. The free use of fertilizers, however, is ex pected te keep the yield up te the average. The planters throughout the Seuth have been much hampered, also, by the diffi culty in obtaining laborers. The sugar cane crop is looking splendidly, except in a few cases in seme of the flooded dis tricts, where it has been killed. The cul tivation of rice is receiving mero attention, and probably the average crop will be so se cured. Tobacco docs net hhew much change ; an increased acreage will be planted iu seme of the Mid Mid dle and Northern, states. Hay and grass crops have been much injured throughout the country, and generally a light yield is expected. The high price of potatoes has led farmers te devete an in creased acreage te that vegetable this year. The fruit crops have been the chief suffer ers. Fiests have about destroyed peaches and small fruit in Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware, and the Hudsen Valley. Other fruits will give an avcrage yield, except perhaps cherries. The dairy interests in the Neith and East are receiving mera at tention, and, with fruit-raising, replacing the cultivation of grain. The great cattle growing interest of the "Wcbt are most nourishing, the mild winter en the plains having been favorable. indulgent parents who allow their children te cat heartily el" high-seasoned ioed, rich pies cake &c. will have te use Hep lilitcr te pre vent indigestion, sleepless nights, sicklier, pain, and. perhaps, death.
