E. church in ear vil lage was possessed of a very antiquated appearance, and that a new ehurch would be erected was desired by all our residents. The tiustees after receiving a Jegacy for the use of the church have at last acceded te the wishes of the people and have de cided te erect a brick church near where the old church new stands. Collectors have been appointed who will! receive the contributions of all who are interested in this laudable enterprise, he trustees aided by their pastor haveu-decided te push this enterprise te completion as seen as possible. The farmers of our vicinity are very busy at present preparing their ground te receive the different grain.. jFhe acreage of tobacco will be about as, great as last year. r Would it net be better for our farmers te give less attention te the culture of the weed, and pay mere attention te the pro duction of the cereals and fruits? Although it might net secure te the farmers as large a pecuniary profit, it would yield a greater amount'ef pleasure. f mi mm DRUMORE NEWS. Latest Intelligence from Down the Country. We are stilr selling a little tobacco. Last week Edward Stimferd and Jehn S. Boyd sold for very geed prices. Seme of our fanners who have net sold yet, and have succeeded in bridging- ever the " first " somehow, and even new de net' feel inclined te sell their tobacco for half its value, net being able te get beyond the most niggardly first of April offers from a tailing crowd of depreciating alleged buy ers, have been and are contemplating cas ing their weed. One of our foremost farmers in the casing movement is Jas. G. McSparran, who has engaged the services of an ex perienced caser te de it. New it happens that said caser has been casing for one of our local buyers and the report has been set afloat, by some person net at all scrup ulous about lying, that the casing is beiug done by said local buyer, ad that the selling of the tobacco is; somewhat under the buyer's control, and con sequently net in the market for general buyers. The report includes several of Mr. McSparrau's neighbors, who also in tend te case, and, ail of them being de; sireus te sell, such reports they fear may be detrimental te their selling. The truth is wc have considerable geed tobacco down here yet and all of it is in the aux aux ieus market but net the, bankrupt and some of us are, going' te case if we de net sell, but whether cased or net no buyer can have even the remotest claim upon it, and it will be m the market till sold. We think this explanation is due our farmers and are sorry that our buyers arc adding lying te their category of sins, for we hoped Jhat they, with.the "devil," would " take a thought and 'mend." If weddings is bliss, ccrtainljr Drumere is glorified. Last Wednesday evening at the residence of the bride's brothers, Messrs. Rebert and Wm. Barnes, at 'Unicorn, Mr. Jehn W. SHOT HIS SWEETHEAET. JEALOUSY PROMPTS JftURDEK AND SUIU1DJC. Ills LUlI WebsterCreM Seriously Wounded by Her Lever, Jehn Starlver, Who Alse SaoeU Himself. A jealous lever shot his sweetheart yes terday at Ne. 2446 Turner street, Phila delphia, in the Twenty-ninth ward, and followed it up by inflicting a harmless wound upon himself. At the house men tioned resides Lillie Webster Cress, a pre possessing girl of 19'years, who for some time has been the recipient of attention from .Tnfin Khrivpr n trnntiifnl r.;n living at Ne. 613 North Eleventh street, and engaged in the fish business at Ne. 32 North Water street. They were lately betrothed and were te be married seen. Lizzie, being of a lively disposition, con tinued te speak pleasantly te gentlemen mends when she chanced across them. Shriver becamejealeus, and the couple bad several disputes ever the propriety of the young lady's conduct. Shriver was con tinually chiding her, but te no purpose, as the girl, it is said, gave ether young gentlemen mere attention than she vouchsafed te ber expected lord. On Mon day night'She capped the climax by going tome tueatre witn another mend, sennv er, when be heard of this, grew irate and decided en something desperate. At neon yesterday he went te the house of Miss Cress and entered it with a laich key. un known te the family, lie awaited in the parlor several minutes the return of the young lady, who bad gene en an errand. When she appeared he arose and kissed her, after which the mother of Miss Cress beard the two iu loud conversation. She heard him say : " Will you premise me " but did net catch the rest of the sentence. Soen after this she heard a shot, followed by a scream and another shot. She rushed down into the room and a horrible sight met her gaze. Lizzie lay ou the fleer bleeding from a wound in the right ear, and Schrivct close beside her, with the smoking pistol clutched in his hand. The woman was se overcome that she was un able te de anything, and steed like marble staring at what she sifppesed te be Iter daughter's corpse. The shots attracted the attention of neighbors,' and seen a crowd gathered iu front of the house. Dr. C. C. Vanderbeck was-sent for, and as he entered the room Schriver recovered consciousness. The physician examined the wounds, and found that the girl was seriously injured, but Schriver's wound did net appear te be dangerous. The ball took effect in Miss Cress' right ear, pierc ing the cartilage and striking the temple bone, afterward glancing off. The bullet imbedded itself in the muscles of the neck, and its position could net be located pre cisely. Schriver was shot in the right frontal region, the ball glancing from the bone, and, passing up under the scalp, ledged itself in the top of the head. The weapon was a small Smith & Wessen, aud contained only two charges. An effort was made by some of Schriv er's friends te remove him te his home, but the police would net consent. The girl bears an unblemished charac ter, and is much thought of in her circle of fiiends. Mrs. Wentzell, the girl's mother, whose first husband is dead, and who has been separated only four weeks from her second husband, the girl's step-father, claims that he is answcrable for the crime. She alleges that the step-father visited Schriv er at -his place of business, and related te him stories without any truth about the girl's character. This, Mrs. Wentzell claims, frenzied the young man and led him te commit the act. BUSINESS ENTERPRISE. Anether Spacious Dry Goods Stere. Messrs.
