A' JOHN WANAMAKER'S. PHILADELPHIA. Monday : The most welcome news we can bring te many is of the embroid ered dress patterns that came Friday afternoon. Among them are finer and mere o-enereus embroideries than any here tofore. The black are especially rich; and there are a hundred and fifty of them an unprecedented number. The colored are about as many; very various in styles; and some of them extremely fine. Black : fourth circle, Cbestnut-atreet entrance Colered: third clrcle.Chestaut-atreet entrance Cashmere shawls have come; white, cream, sky, peach, cardi nal; $3-5 and $4. 1J03 Chestnut. ' Capes, dolmans, and ether wraps of cashmere, the various silk fabrics, brocades, chenille and lace, $$.50 te 125. There is great variety; beyond that of any former time. The fashion itself is variety. 1301 Ch03tnut. " Melange embroidered all ever in bright wool with sprigs of pomegranate about six inches apart. The melange is in several colors; se are the pomegranates. $2.50. There's a strong tendency to ward suchdecoratiens in the finer woolens. Thii d circle, southeast Bern centre. Antique tidies; 1,000 mere of these at 28 cents came en Satur day. Yeu can see them all in half-a-minute; there areenlyfive sorts. But the price is mislead ing. We have sold worse for twice the money. Indeed we haven't any better ones under about 70 cents. First circle, southeast Irem centre. Hamburg embroideries of every sort, except low grades. We have such advantage in buy ing that we can have as low prices as anybody, and yet avoid the coarse and peer embroid eries. ' Third and fourth circles, Chestnut-street en trance. On linens the ether day, we were saying that certain famous brands brought higher prices by half than equally geed linens of obscure orunknewn makes. We also said that the brands de net show who made the linens, but who finished them; the real maker of themostfameusbrands being generally unknown. Yeu may set it down as a fact that no body ever knows who the maker is, in the case of linens bearing a distinguished name; and nobody cares. The brand has its use never theless. Itsigirifiesthatthelinens are up te the standard of the great maker whose name is en them; and thatis enough. Thou sands of people will have- these brands; and se we keep them. But we render the very same service, ourselves. We buy in the open market. We buy in Ire land,Scotland,England,Belgium, Germany, Austria, France. We buy true linens, coarse and fine, suited te all your various uses. Sometimes we put J.W. en them ; sometimes we don't perhaps it would be as well if we never did. If our linen-buyer is as sharp and sure as their linen-buyers, our picked-up linens are as geed as theirs; and we save their profit en them. New beyond this saving of money, we rendera service which no buyer-maker renders. The maker, buyer though he be, sells only one country's linens, or at most only such as will pass for his own. We; gathering hither the linens of all countries, no matter hew diverse isn't it cer tain that out of our mere sorts you can be better served? Bel gian linens are tee dark for table-cloths; Irish are extrava gant for sheets ; French excel in sheer handkerchiefs ; German and ..Scotch help te keep down the Irish prices. De we, or don't we, bring the goods of the world te you in a manner deserving your great liberality toward us? Outer circle. Chestnut street, city-hall square entrance. JOHN WANAMAKER. Chestnut.
