During the last week there has been
quite a number of spring changes taking
place in and around this place. There
were very few business changes this year,
most of them being private. Jacob Ferree
has removed from here te Atglen, where
he is clerk in Fatbie's store ; Win. Mc
Carter moved te Wilmington, Del ; Mis.
J. 6. Sheclev has moved te Lancaster ;
Jeseph Baker, of Strasburg, moved ' into.

of the property vacated by W. C. Mc
Limaus, who has gene te' the property
vacated by Levi Rhoades, who has
moved near Christiana ; Geerge
II. Tewnscnd, of Simmonstown, has
taken possession of his farm near At

has gene te Slaymakertewu. Edmund
McCatchrcn, of Bellevuc, has moved te
Harrisburg, and last, but net least, was
the removing of our old Democratic friend
ana iex nuntcr, Air. urisum ekiics, -iruui
Mount Vernen hotel te the Nine Points
hotel property, en Monday last. .The
moving "precession" consisted of eight
heavy.l.iden four-horse teams, and a few
carriages, headed by the Sadsburyville
cornet band, which enlivened the occasion
with excellent music. We wish Mr.
Skiles success in his new abode, and
think he can take " the rag off the bush "
in the moving business, apparently as well
as in fox hunting. Henry Skiles, of
Spring villc, took possession of the Mount
Vernen hotel the same day. Henry Fex,
of this place, has enlarged his clothing and
notion store somewhat, and 4s carrrying a
very fine stock.

After failing te tunnel through the in
terminable quicksands of the Gap " cut,"
and considerable amount of surveying and
calculating, the Pennsylvania railroad
company, have at last, concluded te sink
the bed of their read' somewhat in order te
reduce the steep grade here, in the "cut."
The contractor, J. Grant, of West Chester,
has arrivecWicrc with a few men, and is
making preparations for about fifty work
men who will be here in a few days te
commence this great undertaking. They
intend te commence work at the station,
whern the bed of the read will be sunk
nine feet, and further up, between tbe two
bridges, the bed will probably be sunk be
tween 20 aud 25 feet, that is, if the men can
overcome the great quicksands in the
" cut' which are went te flew as the lava
of Vesuvius. We understand Keller has
the contract of grading the read from
Eaby'e curve te the beginning of Grant's
contract. In a few days jthe work will
commence

our eldest and most respected citizens ex

being pneumonia. His remains were as

Kutztown normal school.
Alfred Davidsen, a fifteen year-old son
of Maggie Davidsen, who resides near this
place, was buried at Atglen en Friday, no
was killed en the railroad, at PaTkesburg,
last Tuesday forenoon.
J. D. Harper's new carriage factory,
in Christiana, is about being completed.
It is a four-story frame structure, 80 by 32
feet, and when completed will be one of the
finest and largest coach factories in this
neighborhood.
The town hall will net be remodeled for
a dwelling as was reported some time are,
but will be occupied by Jes. Baker, as a
cigar factory.
Lecal politicians are beginning te make
