The manuscript of the abeve is a very
well executed forgery of -Mr. Peters' liaml
wtifing. Piesideut Buchanan, believing
it te be genuine, promptly forwarded a
letter containing a cheek for SviOO, te Mr.
Pet c-r.i, directing it te llairisburg, as re
quested in the foregoing letter ; and en
the back id the letter is endorsed in Mr.
Buchanan's well-known chirography the
following : " 10 Dec. 'CO. Abr. Peters.
II Dee. 'CO ausw'd and sent a check for
$300, en the Fairness' bank of Lancaster.'"
The finger's coinage appears te have
failed him, and he did net call at the Har
risbutg posteffice for Mr. Buchanan's
letter containing the cheek for 6300, as
will be seen by the following endorsement,
en the forged letter: "Ueecmbcr '-it,
1SC0. Mr. Buchanan's letter returned un
opened fietn Harrisburg, by mail, enclosed
again Dec. QS, with a note of explanation
and addiessctl te Millcrsville, Lancaster
Ce., P.i." Signed A. J. G., the initials
of A. J. Ulossbrcnnes-, Mr. Buchanan1
.secrctaiy.
When Mr. Peters leccivcd Mr. Buclian
an's letter of explanation and the en
closed check he at once wrote te Mr.
Buchanan, acknowledging the receipt of
the letter and check, and telling bins that
he had never asked for the lean, and thit
the letter asking for it was a forgery. On
receipt of Mr. Pet.-i.s's letter, Mr. Gloss Gless
bicnner made the following endorsement
en the forged letter . "Jan. 4, "01. Let
ter fiem Mr. Poles s pronouncing the
within a forgery has leccivcd the check
and will hand it te yen. lie never ap
plied for a lean."
Mr. Peters at once sent his son, J. G.
Peteis, te Washington for further explana
tions the young man carrying the suys suys
teiieiis cheek along with him. On pre
senting him&elt' at the White Heuse the
gentlemanly usher teid him Mr. Buchanan
was engaged and could net be cen. Mr.
Peters sent up his card and left, but 1 1
fese he had moved many psces from the
deer ld Buck's voice was heard irem an
upper window calling upon him te come
back, and en entering the presidential
picseueeMr. P.uehanan received him with
the gie.tiesl. iMidiality and introduced
him te his guests as a lair sample of his
henet-t Lancaster county constituents.

"We have been handed your paper of the

headed " Christiana Riots," referring te
the action of Congress in disposing of a

by being compelled te shelter and feed a
body of I .S. marines during the investi

Geisuch by his slave whi'u attempting te
reeaptuieaud casry him Itaek te .uonuage.
The petitioner states that he sustained
damages amounting te ever 10,000, but
he modestly lefrains from asking mere
than $4,473. We dosset sccellect eJ hav

reading this startling statement.
Itistlieflr.it intimation that we have

of these who had been lookers-outlining
the few days-of the holding of the com r.

Mr. Zrrracher was as well piepased te

times ; and that he could net have lest
the fraction of his claim (viz) the $4,473

had it net te loose. Neither did he leave
unpaid bills which were chargeable te
that account ; se that the whole thing is
clothed in villiany and is a bald and naked
attempt te steal $l,4u Irem tlie Lisiiei

it has been conducted proves the gu.lt of
the pasties engaged in it.

will ask, is who signed Mr. Zarrachers
petition? or who conceived the idea? We
are disposed te ucneve mat ou an mvciu
