When still the sun was in the east And hope was in the air When all the birds sang te the dawn. And I but sang te you, Oh, bad you loved me then, my Ue.11, And had yea then been u uc ; But ah! ttjp w0le en, ny deai. And when the neon giew het The drowsy birds Jorget te Bin;;, And you and I forget Te talk et love, or live ler faith. Or build ourselves a nest, And new our hearts are shelterless, Our sun is in the West. Louise Chandler Moullen, in Our Centmen1 February IS. The Macaulejs. The Acter and Manager Quarrel. Louisville Dispatch te N. Y. Sun. As is well known by theatrical people throughout the country, a quarrel has ex isted for Bevcral years between Barney McAuley, the well known actor, and Jehn T. Macauley, the manager of Macauley's theatre in this city. Such hatred has ex isted between the brothers, that' Barney had his name changed from Macauley te McAuley. The cause of the quarrel was Macauley's theatre passing out of the hands of Barney into the hands of his brother Jehn. Barney ha always claimed that his brother bwindled him, while Jehn has as stoutly insisted that it was no such thing. The brothers have a host of fiiends in Louisville and throughout the West and Seuth. Intimate friends here have tried for borne time te effect an amicable settle ment between them, but without success. On Monday night Barney began a weck'b engagement in Masonic Temple, and did a geed business. At the close of the third act in "Uncle Daniel ; or, The Messcngct from Jarvis Section," last night, Barney stepped out en the stage aud said that he had a psrseual statement te make He spoke nearly an hour, giving s. history of his embarrassments and the way he lest the theatre and airalguing his bi ether as a swindler. He said that the extravjgaut cost of the building and the panic of 1873 greatly embarrassed him, and he get his brother Jehn te take chaige of the building while he went starring. He made every ttruggle he could te meet uotes en the building when due, but failed, and the building was adveitised te be sold. On the day of the sale net a single member of the profession bid en the building. " But," said he, " all this time my brother had been undcrminiug mc, and he betrayed me, and through his treachery I lest my pi ep3rly. Since then I have been wet king en a salary ; 1-ut, thank Ged, I have onegood fiieud left in the world, and that friend is my wife." Barney was frequently applauded by his friends in the theatre, but theso who had ceme te see the play weie gieatly amazed and seme left the theatre in disgust. Jehn T. Maccaulcy, in an interview tc day said : " My bietuer is simply soured at me, and mad without cause. I paid $40,000 for the building, or $3,000 mere than he could have get from any one c'se. He was head ever heels in debt, and was utterly peweilcss te save hispieperty. Friends came te me and offered te raise me the money. I accepted the preposition and that is all there is in it. I have tiied te make friends with Baincy, but he de clincs my friendship. It was a legitimate business transaction clear through. My endmsers will tell you that." " Since Barney had made the nu.urel pub lic everybody is talking about it. Publie opinion is divided, but the propent'erance is en Jehn T. Macauley's side. HEADING RAILROAD FINANCE-. THREE UNFORTUNATE SWISS. Tenne Men Who Claim They Are Impris oned Without the Slightest Vauie. The sympathies of some of the inspec tors of the Eastern penitentiary have been moved in behalf of lliree comrades of Bernhardt Buch, the prisoner from Leb anon county who committed suicide in his cell by cutting his threat en Saturday night last. The men are Jehn Hilbeit, Otte "Lear and Henry Smith All three are Swiss. The last named, Smith, is an idiot, having no comprehension of any thing that is said te him. The etheisare well educated young men, with the stal wart physique et the & witzcr. Their story is that they came from Switzerland te get work as farm hands. They found such employment en farms between Lebanon and Reading. When they received their pay they started for the West te settle en public lands. They preferred te travel en feet, and declare that they did net make any begging requests and never slept in any barns at night, but camped out and slumbered around a fire which they built in the weeds, a hardy exposure te which they were accustomed te their native land. Unfortunately for them there was a violent antipathy against pedcstiians and foreign ers generally among the peeple of Lebanon county, who had suflered from the depredation of the Blue Mountain gang of tramps by led Jacob Hcnsler, alias Old Socks, whose accomplices took the nick names of well-knew German robbers. Hilbertand bis comrades were pounced upon one night, while they were asleep around their fire, and were clapped into Lebanon jail and seen afterwards were summarily dispatched te the Eastern pen itentiary under imprisonments of one year and three months each as tramp. They deny that this brand of vagabendage should have been affixed te them and that if they could have had a fair chauce in an unprejudiced community they would have been released. There is a possibility that the beard of pardons will be invoked te release them. This new much abused Alcoholic Miniiiluni was never intended as a beverage, but te be nsed as a medicine of great potency in the cure of seme of the destructive diseases which sweep away their annual thousands of victim?. With a purely philanthropic motive we pre sent te the favorable notice et invalids cspr. dally theso afflicted with that miserable li. ease Dyspepsia, a speclflc remedy, which Is nothing mere or less than Brandy. In proof of the curative powers of Reigart'a Old Brandy, in cases of Dyspepsia, we can summon nuin bers of witnesses one case in particular we cite: . A Lard-working farmer had been aihlctcu with an exhaustive Dyspepsia for a number of years; his stomach would reject almost every kind of feed; he had sour eructaUens con cen con stantlyeo appetite In fact, he was obliged te restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread, and as a beverage he used McGrann's Reet Beer. He is a Methedibt, and then, as new S reached at times, and in his discourses often cclalmcd earnestly against ail kinds of strong drink. When adviscute trv Reiffart's Old Brandy, In lils case, he looked np with astonishment but after hearinir et its wonderful effects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he at last consented te fellow our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him an appetite, and before the second was taken he was a sound man.wltt a stomach capable of digesting anything which hc(chese te eat. He still keeps it and uses a llt tie occasionally; and stnee he has this mcdl. cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene, fit te tho.dector. A Pbaotxsjhe Phtbicia n. II. . SLATXAKER.
