LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER WEDNESDAY. FEBRUARY 8, 1882. SLancastrr fntcllisrnrcr. WEDNESDAY EVENING, FEB. 8, 1882. Affairs Down at Intercourse. Although last Saturday was a very dis agreeable day a large concourse of people turned out te pay their respects te all that was" earthly te Mr. Neah Campbell. He was in his 23d years, and leaves a young wife and child te mourn for a kind hus band and father, stricken down in the prime of life. The new firm of Hess & Diller, mer chants, are obliging young men, and arc doing a large business that is still increas ing. Messrs. Diller & Ruttcr are packing to bacco with a full ferce of men giving em ployment te quite a number of hands. They pack the best goods that can be found. Jehn Kilburn, one of our tobacco packers, (whose authority is undoubted) tells of a large bullfrog that has made his home at a deep spring, near Paradise, for the past ten years. When sitting out he covers a space of ground larger than a half bushel measure. The noise made by the critter in the summer evenings is deaf ening. We shall endeavor te capture him next summer for Gee. II. Miller, the cele brated caterer. Gap News. W. P. Linville sold a small let in the western part of this place te the P. R. K. company for $500 last week. Mr. Alfred Santerd has returned home from Virginia after a visit of three weeks. Typhoid fever is prevailing among the citizens of the White Herse. Last week another of Mrs. Elizabeth Waiiner's chil dren died and two ethers arc new down with the same fever. Quite a docpsuew foil ed .Saturday hist. and sieighintr is splendid. Yerk Items. Last week Dr. Shcuck, of Brooklyn, lectured in the Collegiate Institute en the subject "Peaceful invasion of America." He is a geed lecturer, as was evident by his discourse, and he brought forth rounds of applause by his witty yet wise sayings. He particularly dwelt en the invasion of idea." The rumor has gene abroad that small pox is raging in our little town, but there is no truth in it. There has been only one case and that died several weeks age. Measles, however, are raging and appear te go hard with the unfortunate victims who happens te come across them. The Leidig case, which has been pend ing in court for two weeks, was settled last Friday in favor of plaintifl. It ap pears Mrs. Leidig sued the New Era life insurance company for the recovery of 3,000 due her at her husband's death. The company refusing te pay her because it was thought there was foul play it brought en the suit which ended with the above result. A series of temperance meetings will begin here next week. Rev. Babcock, the representative of the National Temperance society, will conduct the service in person. Indeed something et this kind is very much needed. Almest a Disastrous Conflagration. u last Friday evening the large and beautiful stone residence of Dr. Frank P. Housekeeper, of Coatesville, Chester county. Pa., made a narrow escape from complete destruction by fire. The doctor returned home about 1 1 o'clock at night and going te the sitting room before re tiring he smelt the odor of burnt weed. In this room was placed an open tire giate of the latest improved pattern. He went te the cellar and could discover nothing wrong with the massive heater which sup plies the house. He ascended again te the sitting room only te find it filled with smoke and the flames issuing from be neath the grate. But for the bath tub being en the same fleer and his quickly areusiug the neighbors with the electric bells of his house, it would have been im possible te have controlled it and all worked vigorously for three heuis. The canse of the lire was due te the carpeutcis l unuing the weed work tee close te the grate. Philadelphia parties are new en gaged iu making the repairs ami the house is fully insured iu the Chester County Mutual. Skill in tbe Workshop. Te de geed work the mcchnnic must have geed health. Iflng hours et confinement In elesc rooms have en lcehlcd his hand or dim mecl his sight, let hlin at one,', unci before some organic trouble appears, take plenty et line Hitters. His system will be rciuvenated, his nerves strengthened, hUsiht become clear, und the whole constitution be built up te a higher working condition. "The Coiumedoro." Lh. L. This Brandy has stoetl the t?st for years, and has never failed, ai lar as our experience extends, and wc tlicreteri give it the preference ever all etaer Brandies nematter with hew many Jaw-breaking French tiUes they are branded. In proer of the curative powers et Reigart's Old Brandy, In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon nnm bers of witnesses one case In particular we cite: A hard-working farmer had been nlMctcu with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of ;'eara; his stomach would reject almost every Kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con. stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te restrict his diet te crackers ami stale bread, and as a beverage he used McCrann's Reet Beer. When advised te try Rebzart's Old Brandy, In his case, he looked up with astonishment but after hearing et Its wonderful effects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he at last consented te fellow our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him an appetite, and before the second was taken he watt a sound nian.witl; a stomach capable of digesting anything which heshese te cat. He still keeps it and uses a lit tle occasionally; and since no has this mcdl cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene fit te the doctor. A FRAcrifltwe Fuvsici a n. H. .
