LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCER MONDAY. JANUARY 30, 1882. riaurastrv I-iUeUisencet. MONDAY EVENING, JAN. 30, 1882. THE TOBACCO MARKET. SEED LEAF AND HAVANA. Fer the Weck Ending Saturday, 28, lO a. in. January U.S Tobacco Journal. A sale of 1,000 cases of '80 Wisconsin was the leading feature of our raaiket. The demand for goods has somewhat in creased, though only in low and medium priced goods. The continued quietude in manufacturing circles is the main cause of the stagnation in the leaf trade, though the high prices of leaf in general also have considerable influence in this direction. The leaf market is easily discouraged by even a short period of inactivity, aud fears of a coming break-down in prices are largely enteitaiiicd ; a glaring contrast te such disposition is the sanguine, rushing and ever-reaching way in which this trade indulges whenever a spell of activity sets in. Fer the trade there is neither causa for any depression nor great elevation of spirits. The agitation regarding the ic ic ductien or total abolition of the cigar tax will, if net settled seen, certainly have some influence upon the cigar manufac turing industry, and lcstricted orders by jobbers will be the consequence. Never theless, stocks of cigais are very small, aud the consumption is increasing, and therefore the agitation cannot cause a very ' serious interruption. The certainty that the '81 crop contains but a limited amount of fiue goedsisasafeguaidagaiust losses by investors in line '81 tobaccos. Fer cheap goods the market is an open one. Whatever our lactene.-! can't use Europe can at a price : this is the busi ness of the investors. .Sales of tliu Week. Wisconsin Crep '81 : 1,500 cases; pait Havana .seed, at 8 J te 10 cents. Pennsylvania Crep '81 : 000 cases ; mostly low aud medium grades at le te 18 cents. Connecticut Crep '81: 150 canes; mostly wrappers, 0 te 40 cents. New Yerk State, Rig Flats Crep 'si : 410 cases : 13 te 15 cents. Ohie Crep '81 : 100 c.tses ; IK te 11 cents. Havana A better feeling is being man ifested ; line grades are much in demand, and geed prices are being paid. The sales of the damaged tobacco aie beginning te lese their influence and intcicst, the to baccos liiiding outlets in but a small de gree in comctitieu with regular and sound goods. Onus's Repert.
