I. D. McKee, Chairman. Fit an k Willing Leech, Secretary'. Met Bitten by a Tarantula. The friends of Mr. Alex. R. Shepherd disbelieve tbe story which has been circu lated te the effect that he has recently been bitten by a tarantula. They regard the statement as merely a revival of an old story, Governer Shepherd having received a bite from a spider when he first went te Mexico, from which he sufiercd some in convenience. His attorney in Washing ton has received letters from Governer Shepherd, written within two weeks, in which the latter said that he was in per fect health. A Tiling Mrs. Garfield Regrets. It is new reported that Mrs. Garfield has frequently spoken of oue feature abeve all ethers in the president's treatment, that she regretted the most. This was the fact that the president was never allowed te talk about the danger of death', or te speak as he would have done had he been allowed te think that he was going te die. Whenever he approached this subject he was stepped in his talking, and diverted from k by admonitions anet te lese cour age " Mrs. Garfield says that often she wanted te talk te the president upon mat ters which it was almost imperative that there should be conversation before he died, but she restiaiucd herself, and the president passed away without her having that opportunity. In connection with the lcvivcil of the quarrel between the doctors who did and the doctors who did net attend the late President Garfield during his sickness it is averred that he thought all along that Dr. Agnew, of Philadelphia, was the surgeon in charge of the case. His mind was never disabused of that impression, and he car ried it with him te the grave. This repot t would seem, however, te be contradicted by the fact that President Garfield had an opportunity te see by the bulletins sub mitted te him daily that Dr. Bliss' name headed the list as the surgeon in charge. Alse, he could net help being aware that Dr. Bliss was net only in charge, but that he bore the main burden of the exhausting and unremitting attention the case le qtiiicd night and day. Marrying People. The "church choir" which produces "Patience" here next Tuesday evening has ls.-i'l a curious history since it started ou the read with comic operas. Couples thrown constantly together, under all sorts of circumstances learned te love, and almost before the ether members dis covered the tender attachment had mar ried and announced their intention of set tling down. Their places were kept con stantly filled and the new people intro duced followed the reutine of singing, falling in love, hitching and leaving. There are several matches new underway, and the holiday season will no doubt wit ness the solemnization of the nuptials of one or two couples in the party. TDK HOUSEHOLD MAKKbl. isATURDAY Dec. 17.
