LANCASTER DAILY INTELLIGENCES. Fill DAY, DEtENSER 2. 1881. Hancastet fnieWtgenrcr. FRIDAY EVENING, DSC. 2, 1881. Fact and Fancy. The Romanes of Kvcryday Bcallly. Speen and Spencer, two yenng men from Bradford who blew out the gas in their bed-room at a hotel in Terente and nearly suffered death in consequence, when questioned about their foolish act, stoutly asserted that they would de it again, for they " weren't going te turn the light down into the gas-pipe and cause an explosion." Russell McCoy, chief magistrate of Pit cairn Island, is in San Francisce. lie as ;erts that his dot of a country is inhabited by ninety six of the happiest persons in the world. The climate is delightful, the growth of fruits abundant, and the condi tions of life generally comfortable. His own office is a sinecure, for there are no disputes of consequence, and lawlessness is unknewc. The people are communistic te a degree, shariug their goods freely with the needy, and dividing the land equitably. He declares that none of them would leave the island. In Greenwich, Conn., fifty men, with heises mid carts, are at work making for Mr. William Keckafcllcr a private trotting track at his farm. It is claimed that it will be the finest trotting course in this ceuntiy. The eourse is being made en tirely of earth. A dressing of loamy soil six inches deep is being placed en top. The track will be of the usual width. There arc many rocks and stones en the land. Tlicse are being blasted and dug out, :md will be used in building an enor mous stone wall, which will be in some places fifteen feet high and six feet across, and will shut the track in from the outside world. An interesting will suit is en trial in Westminster, Mil., turning upon a post script te a letter said te have been written by the late Jehn Henry Heppe te an adopted (laughter. He left no will, and his estate has been settled. Suit is new brought upon the postscript written en the back of a letter from him admitted te be genuine, while the heirs claim the post script and his signature te it te be for geries. It reads in part: "Don't worry yourself, but take things easy and de the best you can for the present. I have pros ercd ami have accumulated a great deal of money together, and I intend te de what I please with it. And, Ann, after my death, you are te have $10,000. This you aie te have, will or no will. Take care of this letter until my death. Ann, keep this te yourself." Christinas is Coming. The bius that Christmas is near at baud begin te multiply. The shop windows blossom with goods for holiday presents, and the .sticcts take en a festal leek. There is every presjiect that the coming Christinas season will equal any of its predecessors in gayety and splendor. Even were it. only for the reaction after the long national strain of midsummer, we might leek for a winter of jollity, But besides, the incoming tide of business prosperity which succeeded a long ebb has new leaclied. probably, or is fast reaching, the high water mark. In the many fields of speculation, at any rate, and perhaps in some of the productive employments, for tunes have been accumlatcd within the past four years. The Christmas holidays in one way or another exhibit the influ ence of a fortune-making epoch. m m ".My Torment eil Back," is the e(-liiui:itieii el mere than one peer liard-werking man and woman.
