LANCASTER DAILY lNTl&LlGEJXCEft. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 30. 1881. j Lancaster intelligencer. WEDNESDAY EVENING, NOV. 30, 1881. De Vee's December. MEDICAL. TKLEKX AND CHAMOMILE PIIXS. A VALUABLE DISCOVERY. Tlie Ktw Jersey JTephet Trie His Hand at Forecast I ns tlie Weather Again. A..D. Dc Vee in New Yerk Sun. November has nearly passed, and tbe weather has closely resembled my fore casts. They have had very severe weather and deep snows west of the Mississippi valley. It has been very mild in the Mid dle and Eastern states. Our rain storms have been warm, with southeast winds. There have been heavy storms in Canada. December will enter mere like spring than winter. The prevailing winds will be south and southeast. The weather will be exceedingly changeable all the month. The 1st and 2d will be clear, the 3d and 4th heavy rains followed by strong north west winds. The next morning heavy white frosts, followed by warm rains. There will net be four clear days in suc cession during the month. There will be a snow storm en the 22d, with a cold blast for a few days, probably skating en the small ponds ; but the indications arc that there will be no skating en Central Park till after the 1st of January, 1832. The storm belt will gradually move cast ward, and there will be snow blockades near Chicago en the 15th, 23th and 29th. There will be floods in Ohie and Pennsyl vania en the -1th and 11th. Southwest gales will be severe along the coast oil the Eastern states en the 4th, 7th, 11th, 18th and 2Gth. Heavy northwest gales will occur ever the West Gulf states and Texas, with very cold weather for that section. There will be heavy rains, with cold northwest winds ever the East Gulf states. This month will be the coldest for that section of country. Mr. Vcnner premised the people of Can ada a spell of Indian summer during De cember. But tlicy had better lay in an extra stock of coal and have their snow shovels ready, for they will need them. Indian summer never fellows wet weather. In the states of Michigau, Wisconsin and Iowa the weather will be very cold with frequent snow blockades. Seme time age a prominent gentleman of Chicago scut me this questien: I low can a person foretell cliaugcs in the weather without the aid of the telegraph or scientific instruments '.- I will give a few rules : 1. When you sec a bank of thin hazy clouds along the northwest, and it is clear ever the rest of the heavens, then the wind will be from the southeast en the morrow, the temperature will rise, and it will rain in less than forty-eight hours. 2. When there is a dark ring around the sun there is a storm forming te the south of you, and en the morrow the wind will be from the northeast, with snow. U. When the sky leeks very black and the stars shine unusually bright, a storm will advance suddenly from the southeast., beginning with snow, followed by rain. If a person living in any section of our country can cite an instance when these rules did net operate as I have stated I shall be pleased te hear from him. A Tey Circus. Ingenious Contrivance for tlie Voting Felk. Enrich Brethers' "Christmas window" en Broadway, New Yerk, has an exhibi tion called "The Dells' Circus " Te ac commodate the show, which contains no less than 4..i-30 dells ami occupies a space 28 feet deep by 17 wide, the window has been carried back for some distance into the store. First there is the tent, a real canvas one, with its two poles surrounded by a double row of gas gets for evening illumination. Around each pole is a ring, made for all the world like the genuine circus ring, and in them arc men and women dells en horseback, dell clowns and ringmasters, and dell bareback riders. The rings arc connected with an endless rope, and aic turned by a crank below the fleer. The audience of dells, clothed in all manner of bright-colored dresses and fancy costumes, occupy tue scats which (ill three sides of the tent outside of the ring. They arc supposed te be intently watching net only the performers in the rings, but the circus precession, which makes its appearance from an opening in the rear of the tent, passes around both rings and flics out through a second opening at the back. This pro pre cession consists of several chariots and a number of cages of animals drawn by horses, a sledge drawn by four reindeer ; a clown's cart drawn by rabbits, an ele phant and two baby elephants, and numer ous horsemen, camels and gayly dressed horses. It is just long enough te reach around the rings, and its rear guard does net disappear before the vanguard appears again. The precession is moved in the same lnaiincr as the rings, by an endless rope. The rope litsin a groove, and all of I uc precession, excepting tlie wagons, is attached te it. The same crank beneath the 'loer moves both the precession and the riugs. Beside the audience there is a baud stand at one side and a uniformed band, who arc supposed te be playing. The platform of the window has been pur posely raised te enable peeple te see from some ways back en the sidewalk, and a bar has been put up in front of the win dow, iusidc of which only children will be allowed. The whole window is brilliantly illuminated by an electric light. - "BIy Tormented J tack," is the exclamation el mere than one peer hard-working man anil woman.
