Sudden Cessation et Preparations for a .Man-lase. The social circles of "Wilkcsbarrc arc ex cited by an event which is likely te result in serious consequences te at least one per son. At nine o'clock yesterday night James 1. Weller, a well-to-de civil engi neer and surveyor, was te be married te a yeunj lady named Bessie Norris. He was about thirty-five and she twenty-one. The wedding was postponed a few days ae until Tuesday. A large number of invitations bad been sent out and the trains brought numerous relatives and fiienih of the interested parties. The cer emony was te take place at the bride's home, and early yesterday morning the busiest preparations for the happy affair were beguu. Flowers were brought and many fair hands were arrang ing tlicm in place. The young bride was superintending the final prep aratiens et the weuuing without; a thought of any impending sorrow. Gilts were arriving by messengers and were be ing ananged for their display. While the bride was admiring one of the gifts a note was placed in her bands, which had at that moment arrived by a messenger. She opened and hastily lead it. A piercing shriek rang through the house and she fell te the fleer in a dead swoon. Her mother and several friends present hastened te her side. The note lay en the iloer opened. The mother picked it up and read it. It said : l)e;r liessie : The wedding can not take p'.aee te-day. When you receive this I MmH be en my way te Cincinnati and the West and shall net return until spring. Geed bye. James." It is un derstood that Wcller's cruel desertion of the bride at the very altar was caused by a threat made against him by ether par ties. Miss Xenis te lying in a critical condition, and f -ars as te her lecevery arc cntci taiiied. The (jieatest indignation prevails, as the fugitive up te this time held a high place in public esticm. .V Venerable Judge. The venerable Judge Pcai son, who has presided ever the Dauphin county court ler thirty yea is and who this year declined" te be a. candidate again for the place, delivered his last charge te the grand jury of that county en Monday aftei neon. As the present term of com t U the last ever which Judge Pear son will p:cMh', he contemplated some re marks in the nature of a valedictory te the bar and court e ulcers, but he had scarcely uttered h.ilf a dozen farewell words when his feelings overcame him and he turned te his assneiatc. Judge Hendersen, and quickly enteied in e convocation te hide his cmeii'tn A respectful silence fell upon the court room and the expressions of regret at the judge's retirement were gcner:'! and impressive.
