WEDNESDAY EVENING, JULY 27, 1881.
TUK OWL ANO.TUK SPIDER.
In an old belfry tower,
A dry, cozy bower.
Dozed an owl by the hour.
llut the bell's sly old clapper
Was a mischievous rapper.
And seen waked the nappcr.
"Mr. Owl, don't you mind him ;
With cobwebs I'll bind him.
And round and round windhlm."
Thus spoke up the .spider,
Strlp'd like an outrider;
The owl bharply eyed her.
And said: "11 he cheat you,
I'll net scold or beat you,
I'll just merely cat you."
The owl saw her spin
Her web, frail and thin,
Keund the lcll, out and in.
Hut, next Sunday morning,
Without a word et warning,
The bell went a-stermitig !
Willi a cling ami a clang.
With a boom and a bang.
The old clapper rang !
The owl didn't, chide her,
Uebuke nor del ide her,
Hut he ate up that spider!
Here is a moral, dear children, for you :

A device has been invented in the West
for laying ties and iron direct from the

plane and placed iu position by means of a
movable derrick. The iron is run out by
means of a windlass, placed upon the tics

Every Evcniny is authorized te say by
the shipbuilders of AVilmingteu, Del., that
iron steamers of any capacity will be built
by them at the same prices charged at the

is a set-back te Johnny Hoach's cxtrava

knocks the preps from under his subsidy

bothered for some time past.

A hard-working larmer had been allllcted

restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used McUraun's Reet

preached at times, and in his discourses often
declaimed earnestly againstall kinds of strong

In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wendcrlul elleets in

at last consented te fellow our advice. He
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
