A large crowd is expected te go along. Mr. James Watsen, colored, while un loading a wagon filled with corn, this morning, for Mr. Fied Buchcr, was over come with the heat. He was carried into the house where in a few minutes he re covered, hut was unfit for further work. A driver en one of Wolfe's quarry teams cracked his whip at a youngster who was stealing a ride, and scared him se badly that he fell from tlie wagon, cutting his face and head in several places very badly. The reunion of the Fry family of yes terday was a very pleasant affair. Mr. Earnest Witters, the Columbia bill pester, will erect the largest bill stand ever before seen in Columbia, for the Sells Bin. 's circus and mcnageiie. Company II, lllh regiment, will hereaf ter be known as the Columbia Light In fantry, company C, 4th regiment, that name having been adopted at the list business meeting of the company. Columbia will have this year mere cir cuses than ever bcfeie. On August 9th, the Sells JJres. circus and mauagerie will be line. The Columbia Rifles which were dis banded hist year, and who still retain their guns, will exchange them with the (. A. ' K. Mr. Jee Bueher, of Lancaster, was in town last evening tin a shore visit te his parents. Messrs. Wm. B. Given and Harry Brunei stalled te drive te Baltimore last evening a distance of seventy miles. The firemen's convention met last even ing in the council chamber, with Mr. A. J. Musscr, president of town council, in the chair. JJy a unanimous vote of the con vention Air. Gee. W. Schreedcr was elected secretary of the meeting- The Columbia lire company's delegates were net present, but Messrs. Gee. Bennet, Gee. W. Schreedcr and A. McGinnis (substitute for Mai tin Smith), represented the Vigi lant, ami Andrew Jlardnail, Mike Themas and Aaren Gilbcit, the Shaw nee. Town council was represented by Messis. I). C. Wann. V. II. Pfahlcr, A. G. Smiles and A. J. Musscr. After stating the object of the meeting Mr. Jehn T. Shcubcmcr was nominated for chief of the lire .repaittnent of Columbia and was unanimously elected. Messrs. William Findly, of Columbia Ne. 1 ; James Heek, of Vigilant Ne. 2, and Andrew Harduail, of Shawnee Ne. 55, were unanimously elected assistants. Mr. W. II. Pfahlcr moved and presented a vote of thanks te Mr. Shcnbcrger for his integrity and faithfulness in perform ing his duty as chief of the Columbia fire depattment for the past year. Corener Mishler and his jury resumed the heating of evidence in the case of Michael Shreiner who died from his in jniics received en the Heading railroad near the Ilanisburg turnpike crossing a few weeks age. Dr. S. T. Mavis and the engineer, fireman and brakeman, of (hctiaiu by which Mr. Shreiner was struck voie examined and testified te the ciicum stauccsuf the accident substantially as they have been heretofore published. Or. Davis, who attended Mr. Shreiner, testified that the injuries he re ceived caused his death. James Carnahau, engineer, and Themas Coonan, til email, testified that the bell was rung ami the whistle blown as the train ap proached the crossing ; it was running at about six miles an hour. The fireman notified the engineer of the neat approach of Mr. Shreincr's team ami the engineer reversed his en engine ; the team stepped for a moment, some distance from the track and the en gineer again went ahead. Almest at the same moment the team again started ; the engineer again reversed and attempt ed te step the train, but could net. de se in time te avoid the colli sion, and Shreiner was hurt, as has been previously reported. Win. IS. Curlcy, conductor, and Themas Calahau and Philip Wallace, br.ikcmcti, corroborated the above. The inquest adjourned until 7 o'clock this evening, when ether eyewitnesses, net railroad men, will be cxamiiiad. Bicycling. Mr. E. N. Bewen, whose bicycle ride from Lancaster, via Yerk, te Baltimore ou Friday last has been recorded in these columns, after having made a visit te Washington, where he remained ever Sunday, returned te Baltimore, and en Monday started for Havre-de-Grace, and stepped near that place Monday night. Yesterday he started again, passed through Havre-de-Grace, rode up the tyw-path as far as McCall'u Ferry, crossed the river, and then struck across the country for Lancaster, arriving here at 8 o'clock last evening. In two and a half days he rode en the bicycle 150 miles, and says he enjoyed the trip greatly, although a part of the read was very rough. This company in tend running a read from Reading, Pa., te Perry vi He, Cecil county, enough capital having been secured te warrant the com pany te begiu work immediately. The principal object of the read is te carry coal from the coal fields te the head of the Chesapeake, from this point te be dis tributed te all markets. This morning about 7 o'clock a break was discovered in the 12-inch water pipe, leading from the water works te the reser voir, at a point about 150 yards from the works. Supcriniendcnt Kitch and the workmen were present just at the time and the water was immediately turned off for the purpose of making repairs. The pipe, which was laid in 183G. broke at a joint, and when it war, discovered a hole had been washed large enough te bury a horse. The accident will net effect the watei supply. Information Wanted. Yesterday Chief of Police Deichler re ceived a letter from the District Attorney of Van Wert county, Ohie, asking- for in formation concerning Geerge O. Miller. This man was arrested in that county en a charge of grand iarceny, and he claims that heis a resident of this county where he was druggist and country school teacher. Harriet Bosten, Lizzie Williams and Mary Wilsen, all colored women, who were disorderly en Middle street en Satur day night, had a hearing before Alderman A.F. Dennelly this afternoon. Franke, agent for the sale of Merris & Irclands' safes, lifted with rope and tackle into the second sterv window of Walter E. Private Secretary Brown has just sent the following note te the mem bers of the babinct : Executive Mansion, July 13. The abatement of the unfavorable symptoms which made their appearance en Monday afternoon and evening has steadily con tinued, and at this time (7:30 a. m.) his pulse is 90, temperature 98.5, or normal, and respiration 20, or within one of nor mal. The fever has subsided entirely. The president takes readily all nourishment allowed by the physicians and suffers no inconvenience from it. His sleep was mere natural and mere refreshing last night than that of any ether night. The" Official" Bulletin. Washington, July 13. Executive Mansion, 8:30 a. m. Aguew : The febrile rise yes terday afternoon was less marked and occurred at a later hour than en the pre vious day, and te-day for the first time the president's morning temperature fell te the normal point. r The general pro gress of his symptoms appears mere favorable than hitherto. During the last twenty-four hours he has taken thirty-two ounces of milk and ene ounce el rum. tins morning no had also a slice el milk toast and chewed the breast of a woodcock, but did net care te swallow the meat. I le had last night one quarter of a grain of sul phatc of merphia hypodermically (in no twenty-four hours during the past week has he received mere than a single dose of this quantity), and slept well during the night. This morning he received ten grains of the bisulphate of epiinia. Yesterday at 7 p. m., his pnlse was 101, temperature 102.4, respiration 21.
