New te the xebc of the teeming cartli, The old, with tbe pest, Is gene. And sett, low winds breathe of joy and mirth, OI time's most glorious dawn. And thick en the boughs of Joyous trees Bad brilliant veblags or green. And the living air, swift couriers lrem seas, Whisper through this verdure screen. New Is the oev'ring el earth's bread plain, The beautiful hue Is there ; Fer nature. In glory, bnilt her lane Willi costly adornments rare ; And mountains and ilales breathe perfumed sighs. That float o'er the scene around ; Tell naught or the time which droops and dies, When warmth in letters is bounds New Is the tinge of the golden morn ; And rosy Aurera new Wakes in beauty, and quick te adorn, tti ight jiencils the heaven's brew. Ami the blue In the vault of space above Is pellened with tender light. And the soul, with strange, dlvlneU love, Sees beauties with fancy's sight. New Is the fall or the gentle rain. That, sinking te hidden cells. Freshens the rose and daisy again. In shadowy, humid dells. And o'er dark clouds, a premise te clans, In amlier ami green and geld, The mystical arch of Iris spans, And the heavens in puacc enteld. New is the bieath et the eventide. And zcpliers, floating low. Tell et the modest evening bride Rising iu pure, virgin glow; Ami sweet, last beams e I the dying sun Paint richly each hill and dale With wealth from shores, where the waters run And spaikiet or Pattelus sail. ii b. s. The Tobacco Market. Seed Leal mud Havana ler the Week Kill ing Saturday May VI. United it tales Tobacco Journal. Six hundred cases qfr '78 Penn sylvania turned up sudaculy in the market this week, and an enterprising city cigar manufacturer quickly made the let his own. All old tobaccos of any value are being bought up almost as seen as offered, provided prices are net altogether out of all proportion. There still exists uncertain feeling re garding the qualities of any of the '80 crops ; and though manufacturers, as well as jobbers, are already eager te purchase the waver, lest they may, se te 'speak, jump ou the wrong horse. We held that tbe safest investment iu an '80 crop is iu one that is wrappery and will stand re sweating. The prices paid for '80 crops by packers were reasonable, under pre vailing circumstances. There is no possi ble reason why prices of leaf should go down. Such can only happen te tobacco that proves tender and bad in burning ; en sound leaf a decline in prices cannot oc cur. Therefore the risk in buying the lat ter new at a reasonable profit te the packer is quite imperceptible. The only sales of 'SO tobacco repotted in this market was one of 800 cases Connecticut, at 10 te 11 cents. Iu ?9 goods, we note sales of C50 cases Pennsylvania mostly wrappers, 32 te 40 cents. Connecticut figured with sales of 200 cases, wrappers, at 21 te 27 cents. Several miner sales of Ohie and Wiscon sin were reported, but particulars could net be ascertained. Havana Remained active, with sales of about 700 bales, partly 7!, partly '80. Prices unchanged. dans' Repert. Sales of seed leaf tobacco reported by J. S. New Yerk, for the week ending May 23, 1881 : 200 cases 1879 Pennsylvania, 24 te 25 ; 50 cases 1879 de, 35 ; 50 cases 1878 de, 8 te 9 ; 550 cases 1878 de, 15 ; 250 cases 1879 Connecticut, 18 te 20 ; 700 cases 1880 de, .seconds. 10 te 11 ; 150 cases 1879 Ohie, 7 te 10. Total 1,950 cases. The Philadelphia Market. Leaf. A fair week's business is claimed by dealers in cigar leaf; all nay they could de mere if they had stock. Desirable old leaf is in demand at full quotations, while Penn sie holds the first call at A Ne. 1 figures, and is difficult te obtain at the price offered. Most of the lirsl-class houses are busy packing new leaf. Rheumatic Diseases.
