A Desperate Combat In the Presence el Fifty Spectator. Nelsenvillc, O., Correspondence or Cincinnati Commercial, May 3. Orbiston is a mining settlement. It has a population of some two hundred per sons, most et whom are miners and fur nace men. Leve and Brooks are employed at the furnace and hava worked together several years. Seme time age they became engaged in a quarrel, which originated at a country dance and has lasted until te-day. They are both young men and Brooks has been married a little less than a year, and two days age his wife bore him a child. Last night Brooks celebrated this event by getting en a spree, and returning te the furnace he met Leve and the old feud was rekindled Seme het words were used and a fight ensued. Brooks picked up a heavy piece of cinder and struck Leve en the head, and tbe fight ended for a time, Leve premising te renew hostilities in the morn ing. When morning arrived Brooks was informed that Love had purchased a re volver, and he tee prepared himself with a five shooter and proceeded with his friends te the furnace. There he met Leve and a crowd of backers. Beth were prepared for battle, and it did net take long te find sufficient cause. Followed by their respective cliques the two principals walked along together, calling each ether hard names, until Leve finally picked up a brick and threw it at Broek's head. This Brooks warded off. but received a severe bruise en the elbow ; at the same time he drew a six-sheeting thiryt-twe calibre revolver and fired, the ball entering Leve's abdo men, but he did net fall. " Give it te him back," yelled one of the crowd, and Leve also drew and fired. There were probably fifty men circled around the combatants, each urgiug his favorite te fire and each armed with a knife or pistol. The princi pals needed no enceuragment, however. Leng buried hatred had burst forth in the besom of each, and frenzied with excitement, -they fully determined te settle the matter theu and there. The crowd yelled and the fighting continued unabated. Leve was firing a little faster than his opponent, but Brooks' aim seems te have been none the steadier for the delay. The men were standing at short range, each firing alternately and in com paratively geed order. Finally Leve be gan retreating. Brooks followed him, still firing. Leve backed as far as the engine house corner, and, again standing his ground, emptied his revolver at his oppo nent, who fell with a bullet in each leg. The crowd surged around the fallen man, who wa vainly attempting te reload his emptied pistol. Brooks also called te his friends for a knife te remove the shells from his weapon. Beth men were new hert de combat, but each was anxious te continue the battle until one or the ether would acknowledge himself defeated. The friends of the parties new declared the battle ended. The combatants were taken from the field and a telegram was at once sent te Nelsonville for medical aid, and Dr. William Biderman, of this place, at once responded. He teuud Leve with a bullet hole in his abdomen, about two inches te the left of the umbilicus. To night he is said te be dying. Brooks was shot through the lower portion of each leg, one ball passed through the right le? and another is buried in the fleshy part of the left. Beth men have been placed under arrest.
