Timely Treated By Geed AutUerlty. A. D. Hepkins write te the Cough Gentleman from Jacluen county, W. Y., about a cheap barn which he has built and which answers his purposes as well as a much mere expensive structure : "The size of the building is 26 by 100 feet. The franre is made of poles from 3 te 8 inches in diameter, the pests are i ieet long, and stand en sills about a feet from the jrreund, the sills resting en laige Rtenes. It is bearded up at each end and seven feet en each side, seven feet above being left open for convenience in filling with hay. It shelters 140 sheets, 10 cows, and 40 tens of hay, and was built by myself and three common farm hands at a cost of 8100. I have used this bnilding two winters, and expect it te last mere, and pay for itself about five time in saving feed, &c. I de net have the leant intention of ever build ing a barn that will cost $2,000, for I can build one eh the above plan with sawed frame, that will net cost ever $300, and it will suit me better. Varieties Cf Strawberries. The editor of the Gcrmantewu Telegraph in answer te inquiries for the best varieties of strawberries makes this answer : " Cap tain Jack, Seth Heyden, Triomphe de Gand, and Sharpless. The latter we have net tried, being satisfied with the two first named, and thus far preferring Captain Jack, a bed of which at this writing leek's as premising as any we have ever seen. Of course we can only speak thus early of the appearance of the plant as it came through the un usually severe winter. In flavor it is as geed as the best of any ether that we have yet grown ; in size as large as the largest ; in production equal te if net in advance of any ether variety. Seil ami locality have as much eftcct upon this as upon any ether fruit. We have seen fine, abundant crops of varieties that we had long abandoned as next te worthless, and therefore can hpeak only as te our own cxperiouce aud that of our growers with whom we have interchanged views. We have- raised splendid crops of Triomphe de (Jand, also of Scth Boyden, the latter being sometimes especially large and geed. Bharpless is spoken of by seme of thoxe who have grown it in high terms, for its size and ex cellence, aud it might be advantageous ler these who raise considerable quantities of strawberries te give it a trial." Cheap Sile In a Jtarn Raiment. In answer te a correspondent inquiring about a cheap silo in a baru basement .10 x 40 and 8 feet high the Country Gen tleman savs : We suppose your b.irn fleer is about 14 feet wide, and the mews en each side 13 feet wide or thereabouts. If you can spare 13 from ene end of your basement, you may make a silo for about $50 or 60, which will held 79 tens of ensi lage. If there is mera space than you want, you may extend it only half way across the end of the basement, or else make it narrower. The first thing te de is te see that there arc sufficient horizon tal timbers te held the vertical planks in place ; then sun-eund the intended space with 2-inch hemlock planks spiked te these timbers ; the plank may extend up wards two or three feet above the barn fleer. They need net be planed or matched. Give them a geed heavy coat of crude petroleum en both sides before or after setting them, as may be most convenient. Cever them- outside with tarred building paper te make them air tight, and outside these nail rough inch beards. The 2-inch plank, tarred paper and inch beards will secure the contents from any frost which can enter the base ment. It will save much labor in winter fees'- iug if a plank deer, opening below or in the basement is provided. This may be secured with crossbars till needed for ut.e, and only a small portion of the ensilage next te it need be thrown out above in order te get at it. Through this deer the contents are easily conveyed in baskets or wheelbarrows te the stables en the same level. Seme arrangement with screws may be devised for pressing the fodder, but as you are experimenting the first year, it will probably be less treuble te resort te the common and simple way of lenditiy the plank covers with stones, sand or earth, which require no further caie after being placed in position. There are two ways te fill the silo. If you have no suitable horse-power and stalk-cutter, you may threw the green fodder from the lead as it stands en the barn fleer directly into the silo, te be well trodden down or pounded with heavy wooden peunders, as each successive layer is deposited. In this case this fodder should be sewn se thickly in the furrows that it will net grew larger ; the stalks should net be an inch in diameter, or the eattle will reject a portion. Fer this pur pose three or four bushels of seed will be required for an acre, en rich ground. If, however, you have a tread-power and stalk-cutter, you may u-e large stalks, which, if out net mere than three-fourths of an inch long, will be entirely eaten. If you have but one pair of horses en your small farm, you may cut aud draw a lead tb the barn fleer, then remove the horses te the horse-power, aud while one man is feeding the machine the ether will pitch the fodder off the lead te him, the stalk cutter being se placed that the chopped stalks will be discharged directly into the silo. A third man will level, tread and pound the stalks as they, fall ; or the two men may de this work as each lead is fin ished. piATAKBH. CATARRH, COLO IN THE HEAD, HAY FEVEB. We have ransacked all Europe for linens, and have a variety of both fabric aud finish that could net be gathered in the American market. The goods are fresh, tee. That's important ; for linens bought in Naw Yerk may be several years old, and you knew starched linens de net improve by age. The dressings used by the manufacturers is net se de structive as starch ; but it does injure the fabric in time. We have another advantage in prices. We gain the importer's profit. The result is we get the best linens in the world, iu the best possible condi tion, and for the least money anybody can get them for. We can give you the importers' profit, and still have enough left. New it is proper for te consider that somebody else may be doing the same thing, and afford the very same advantages. Se, if you please, whatever you irish te buy get samples of it from us and from ethers, and compare. Or buy our goods, if you like ; and if you can de as well elsewhere, bring ours back. This is rather a brave challenge ; for, you knew nobody wants remnants.
