LANCASTER DAILI 1K1JSIJJGENCKK, WEDNESDAY, MAY 4. 1881. incaster hitilliattuxt. WEDNESDAY XVXMIHO, HAY 4. 1M1. Slluagslev's Bill.. Democratic Senatorial District Wiped Out. Pittsburgh Pett Marrisburg Correspondence. But let us leek a little into the details of this infamous assault upon the right of representation. The manner of grouping etieng Democratic counties into senatorial districts and earring Republican districts out of Democratic counties, shows the master hand of an artist and displays -the ready invention the abundant resources and unparalled audacity of the Cameren coterie. By the apportionment of 1870 Lehigh and Northampton each compose a district, while Menree, Pike and Carben constituted a third, all strongly Demo cratic and represented in the present sen ate by Holben, Beidlemau and Craig, re spectively. Lehigh has a population, ac cording te the census of 1880, of 05,969, Northampton of 70,116 and Menree, Carben and Pike, of 61,758 in the aggregate, and yet in defiance of all decency, this committee has "u-ged Craig's district into Holben's and - " -roan's, attaching Carben te Lehigh, Bcidic. -ee and Pike te Northampton, and Meni - a population of only while. Delswtu. -.4 separately as a sena 5G.102 is maintain.. - -nefit of Coeper.who "terial district for the Uw. rnlg it will is a chief of the Cameren c district thus be seen mat tue uemeewk. m have composed of Lehigh and Carben vel a population of 97,891, and the Dem cratic district made up of Northumberland, Menree and Pike will have a population of 100,152 as against the 56,102 of the Radi cal district of Delaware- county. The dis trict composed of the counties of Lycom ing, Menteur and Columbia, represented by McHenry, Democrat, is wiped out, Sullivan being joined te Bradford and Wyoming, which will continue te send the Radical, Davics; Lycoming te Tiega, which will make a new Republican dis trict, and Menteur aud Columbia te North umberland which will make a distriet overwhelmingly Democratic, whiie Union and Snyder are taken from Northumber land aud joined te Juniata te make a Re publican district The Democratic dis trict composed of the counties of Juniata, Perry and Mifflin is also wiped out, Juniata being disposed of as stated, Perry leing joined te Franklin and Miflliu te a district made up of Hunting don, Mifflin and Fulteu counties, the lat ter districts being Republican. The coun ty of Lackawanna is made into a separate district, which will be Republican, aud Luzerne into two, one of which is Repub lican. The Third district, Pluladclpnia, is strengthened for the Republicans te pre vent it from being captured by a Demo crat, as was done by Gorden at the last election, and Philadelphia will have here after but ene Democratic senator out of the eight. m A Lady's Wish. We hav received new linens from Belfast, Barnsiey, Bnntcrmline, Lisle, TJnisMls, Ghent, Silesia, Bohemia. That's important ; for linens bought in Njw Yerk may be several years old, and you knew starched linens de net improve by age. The dressings used by the manufacturers is net se de structive as starch ; but it does injure the fabric in time. We have another advantage in prices. We gain the importer's profit. The result is we get the best linens in the world, iu the best possible condi tion, and for the least money anybody can get them for. We can give you the importers' profit, and still have enough left.
