Aii Interesting Adventure with Bears. Seme davs since a farmer's 'wife inGray- son county, Va. (whose name we have net obtained) was frying meat for dinner at lr.r house situated near a mountain range in a rather wild and sequestered place, Iter husband at the time being engaged at work at some distance from the house. The savory odor of the bacon was scented by a couple of young bears that were rang ing en the premises and enticed them te fellow the direction from which it came. Ihey kept the scent until it even drew them into the house where the meat was en the fry. The lady of the house secured the strauge visitors and her knowledge of bears led her te think that these young ones had strayed from their maternal parent, which would seen fellow their trail and hunt them up. Her judgment was correct, for it was but a few moments before the old she bear came in sight an enormous black bruin, of a kind, as many of our readers knew, will fight te the death for their young. The woman drew down from its rack the old true, tried and trusty mountain rifle that had perhaps served en similar occa sions te that which it was about te be called many times befere, and, fastening the deer, she inadna loep-holo of the win dew and waited the approach of her bear ship within a sufficient distance for a shot. She waited net long and fired, the ball taking effect but net proving fatal. The report of the rifle drew her labor ing husband from his work who, coming near the house, was chased several hun dred yards by the bear which then gave up pursuit and returned in quest of her young. The plucky backwoodsman's wife had in the meantime reloaded the rifle and with the second shot the old she benr keeled ever, underside topmost, and "yielded up the ghost." The cubs, we are told, sold at Independence, the county seat of Graysen, for $20 and the skin of the bear, which was enormously large, brought the sum of $3 at the same place. Anether bear story, as true as the above (and both come from well warranted au thority), is that recently in Graysen a large bear was found dead in the weeds at a large leg in which a sew had lain, and was then lying, with her litter of pigs, the reasonable supposition being that the mother hog in defending her young had get the best of bruin and slew him in the U:ht. LINENS! We have received new linens from Belfast, Barusley, Duntermline, Lisle, Brussels, Ghent, Silesia; Bohemia. We have ransacked all Europe for linens, and have a variety of both fabric and finish that could net be gathered in the American market. The goods are fresh", tee. That's important ; for linens bought in Naw Yerk may be several years old, and you knew starched linens de net improve by age. The dressings used by the manufacturers is net se de structive as starch ; but it does injure the fabric in time. We have another advantage in prices. We gain the importer's profit. The result is we get the best linens in the world, iu the best pessible condi tion, aud for the least money anybody can get them for. Wc can give you the importers' profit, and still have enough left. New it is proper for te consider that somebody else may be doing the same thing, and afford the very same advantages. Se, if you please, whatever you wish te buy get samples of it from us and from ethers, and compare. Or buy our goods, if you like ; and if you can de as well elsewhere, bring ours back. This is rather a brave challenge ; for, you knew nobody wants remnants.
