Why a Farmer's Lite was Wretched ler fif teen Team. Indianapolis Journal. On Saturday evening last a midtllc-afreii farmer strode into the jewelry establish ment of G. L. Elliett, in M music. The proprietor was out. The farmer called the clerk aside and whispered in his ear that he had something te tell him that he came in te see Mr. Elliett, but as he was net in he would tell him (the clerk) and he could tell Mr. Elliett when he letmucd. The farmer then said : ' Fifteen years ajje I was a rapid young man, living in this county. Mr. Elliett, who own this jewelry store new, was running a watch shop in a little frame building where this building new stands. One day I came in here it has been just about fifteen years and there were some boys with me. I asked te leek at some rings and the boys per suaded me te steal one while Mr. Elliett's back was turned. I did it and that thelt has preyed upon my mind ever since. Xe one knows hew-much trouble it has caused me. I have come in here frequently te pay Mr. Elliett for the ring and acknowl edge the theft, but could never raise the courage until new te de se." The farmer, after making this confession, looked at some rinirs, ascertained the prices, and after approximating the value of the one he purluiued fifteen years age, paid for it, and with the request that the clerk would explain the matter te Mr. Elliett, the countryman glided out of the store.
