Yeu aisle me If 1 think a godly muu Can be built up Christ-like en nature'et plan. Well, nature's plan la Ged's, ana te, why net? 1 knew one once that answered just my thought. He preached te spirits buried In perdition ; Geed works, geed life, and Ioto his admoni tion; Exhorted etemachs gnawed by grim starva tion. Bread, meat, and drink and joy hi exherta. tten. no sang te naked fret, and hand and limbs : Beets, mittens, shoes and trew.st-rs were his hymns. He guided heart and brains that ached with chiding. Example, truth and courage wcre his guiding. In ceuehlcss homes and empty fuel sheds If u ritual was weed, and quilts, and bed ; And treni the sick, the helpless and distressed, RespenBlve health and comfeit made hint blest m. "er he prjyed, men pray net ever. Tlicpr. much, n't deign te answer such ; Fer Mammen de. ew and rude. He prayed it in a cabin . rel J i nd almr st Where forms were hungry, . nude ; Where silken saints had eiteu been befeiC. And prayed advice and cciuurc through the deer. But at a pious distance, salcly wide, They prayed while passing by en t'ether side. Prayer solemn, wordy, faultier in thtlr frame ; But shivering orphans shivered ullthcamc. In vacant stomach', liuu -erS cruel jaid Was still as flerca as it they'd never prayed. But my saint, en pem- shoulder., lean and bare. Prayed down a geed, thick, warm, ivd-flanne' prayer. Perhaps such prayers are Vulgar, quaint and wild. But in tiie sufferer", think-t geed Jesus smiled: 'When all my Father':, jewel's (.hull be named Of such a eae I will net be ashamed, Fer, lighting off the fiend el poverty Frem one peer wretch, he did it unto Me." Had he faith ? Well, I should j udgc he had ; Such faith as empties the world of hi 1 that's bad ; A faith that works all towns and ilte- above, And net by styles or dogmas, but by love. This la my godly man, and nature's tee, And Ged's :nd Christ's. Se let it lie with you. And me, and ours, and all humanity : Of such Ged's kingdom is. and is te be. Vtica Observer. The Smaller Bey Toek the Cue. A jelly clergyman in Rondout, New Yerk, has two sous, both bright, obedient and well tiaincd lads, but mischievous and fun-loving, as boys can be. It is the custom of the father te have his boys loam a verse of scripture every day and rocite it each morning. In accordance with this custom, a few days since the lads were called upon by their father te re peat their verses for the day. It happen ed te be a time when the skating was geed, a sport of which all active heys arc devotees, and the boys naturally burned with eager deshe te be eiF te the frozen field. But discipline must be maintained, as they well knew, and theic was no escape from the daily .scripture recitation. The elder of the boys had leaintd his text and was ready for the ordeal, and when asked te repeat it piemptly replied : "I had rather be ; doorkeeper in the house of my Ged than dwell in the tents el wickcu ncss, " and he "Mid out'"' happy at his re lease. The younger lad had quite forgot ten te learn his text, but his2 wit came te his rescue. "Se would I, father," he shouted, and nlT he ran te join his brerhcr. JIELIOIOVS.
