Mr. Jehn Wiley departed this morning
for a week's leisure in Philadelphia, from
which point he will visit Cape May and
Atlantic City.
This morning Messrs. Chas. S. Burns,
of the firm of Shaub & Burns, shoe dealers,
and Jno. M. Davidsen, of R. J. Housten's
notion house, left en an extended pleasure
titir, the objective point of which is Que
bec, Canada. Among the places of inter
est touched will be Xew Yerk, thence by
steamer te Portland, Me., thence te the
White Mountains, te Montreal, and up the
St. Lawrence te Quebec, the point of des
tination. On their leturn trip they will
visit Niagara Falls, Saratoga and ether
points.
J. L. Stcinmetz, esq., of this city, was
master of ceremonies at a grand carnival
and bal masque given in honor of G. com
pany, Second lcgimcnl, N. G. Pa., Friday
evening, at Hetel Albien, Atlantic City,
and made the opening address, compli
menting the visitors upon their line ap
pearance and extending te them the cour
tesies of the cvcning.The event is described
as one of the most brilliant (hat ever oc
curred at Atlantic City .

A few weeks age we published a notice
of the fact, that David E. Strachan. late of
this city, bugler in Company I J, 81 h U. S.
cavalry, had been captured and killed by
the Indians en the Texan frontier.
A letter received te-day by his brother,
.lames E. Strachan, written by Sergeant
F. W. Dudley, announces that the sup
posed dead soldier has arrived at the head
quarters of his command, camp Clark,
Texan, badly wounded in the muscle el
the left arm, but that he is in a fair way
of recovery. Sergt. Dudley gives no par
ticulars of his comrade's escape from Hie
Indians, but says the wounded man will
himself seen write the particulars. He
adds: "Mr. Strachan. yen have get a
brother you mti never be ashamed of. lie
is as brave a young man as 1 ever saw."
Death of a lining Man.
Geerge Spicchcr, a ten of Geerge 1).
Spreeher, of East King street, died at his
father's lesidencc en Sat in day evening at.
(5 o'clock of consumption. The deceased
was between 18 and 1!) years of age, and
was a graduate of the high school. He
returned en Monday night last from a visit
te the mountains and seen afterwards took
te his bed aud liugcied until death. He
had many geed qualities and friends,
whose grief i aggravated by the painful
circumstance that Mr. Spiccher's eldest
son died only a few weeks age in the Far
Went.

Geerge Titzel, one of Mcchaniesburg's
most prominent citizens, died suddenly of
cramp at that place this morning. He is
