Leaf Tobacco.
The New Yerk Trade,
U. S. Tobacco Journal.
Business in old tobaccos, especially '78
Pennsylvania, has been quite lively, -while
all growths of the '79 crop remained neg
lected, greatly contrary te the anticipa
tions of the sanguine purchasers of the lat
ter crop. The few jobbers who have net pur
chased any leaf de net evince the slighteht
anxiety te secure new tobacco, while man
ufacturers consider it wise policy net te
pay any attention te it. Se far but one or
two manufacturers have purchased '79
Pennsylvania. There certainly will be a
demand for it in a few months, and these
that offer it at the lowest figures will, of
course, be the first te sell. There will be
such a multitude of sellers that the broker
who secures buyers will undoubtedly be
come amest popular personage.
The '78 Pennsylvania is selling lively.
Helders new evince a tendency te sell
out at any reasonable figure ; and manu
facturers, unable te make use of the '79
crop as yet, are compelled te fall back upon
this much-abused article. The remnants
of all ether old tobaccos sell easily when
ever the prices are considered low.
We particularize sales as fellows : Penn
sylvania Crep '79 : C80 cases ; fillers, 11
telljc; running, low, 14c; geed, 18c;
fine, 21c; wrappers, 30 te 40c
Connecticut Crep '78 : 1C8 cases, run
ning, p. t.; C5 cases of wrappers, 32c
Ohio-Crep '78 : 235 cases, running, 9 te
10c.
Wisconsin Crep '78 : 90 cases of wrap
pers, 14c.
Havana Market active. Sales 020 bales.
About 100 bales of the 'C8 crop were sold
at 87Jc ; 1879 sells at from 93c te $1.33 for
fillers.
Gam's Kcpert.
Sales of seed leaf tobacco reported by
J. S. Gans's Sen & Ce., tobacco brokers,
Nes. 84 and 80 Wall street, New Yerk, for
the week ending April 2G, 1880 :
200 cases '79 Pennsylvania, p. t.; 400
cases '79 Wisconsin, Havana seed, 15
19c; 100 cases '79 New England, seconds
and fillers, p. t.; 200 cases '78 Pennsylva
nia, 1219c; 100 cases '78 New England,
15(525c; 54 cases '78 Ohie, 11 Jc; 50 cases
'78 Wisconsin, 10c Total number of
cases, 1,104.
