EPjult is a curious fact connected
with deep mining, says the Geclong
Advertiser, that, from the hours of
twelve at night till three in the morn
ing, the disturbing influence in the
bowels of the earth obtains increased
activity. At tnat time it is observed
by miners that water falls from places
where none is observed by miners that
water falls from places where none is
observable during the day-. The vol
umo in the wheel is perceptibly in
creased, the atmosphere is charged
with gases which often prevent the
lights from burning, and small parti
cles oi' earth and rock are observed to
fail from the tops of the drives.
N\ hcther this phenomenon is to he at
tributed to the diurnal motion of the
earth or other causes, it is worthy the
attention ot the curious.
