Relief and Poor House Business- The Relief Board meets on the Third Fri dav of each month at the Connniss oners' Office, and the Relief Orders are issued on the last Saturday of each month. The Directors of the Poor meet at the Poor House on the 2d Monday of each month. SELLING OFF. : —S. J. AII> THE SUFFERING. —An association of ladies has been organized in Hagers town, Maryland, for the relief of the inhabitants of the Shenandoah Valley, whose fields have been subjected to the hand of cruel war. Pinching want is felt throughout the Valley, and charitable humanity in other sections is called upon to aid these unfortunate people. Contributions of money, food, clothing, and other articles of utility will be very acceptable and thank fully received. Mr. L. M. Byers, their agent, will return to this place ina day or so, when it is hoped the demand tor aid will meet the hearty response of our citizens. THE WEATHER has been very cold for some days, the thermometer having ranged from 7 to 12 degrees below ze ro on Monday and Tuesday mornings, being the coldest nights we have had for several years. The heavy snow of i last week was followed by several in ches more on Sunday. The roads in different localities have been rendered impassible by drifts, and nature wears j a more wintry aspect at present than heretofore. ENTERTAINMENT. —The members of the choir of the Presbyterian church ' gave entertainments on Friday and .Saturday evenings which were well at tended and consisted of a lecture by the pastor, music, tableaux, and re freshments, the proceeds amounting to over 8140, which is to be appropriated to purchasing a cabinet organ. Crissman, aged 72 years, 5 months and 6 days. During an extensive revival of religion in the Presbyterian church of Milroy, Mr. Criss m n was hopefully converted and with many others united with that church, on the 29th of October, 1842 About ten years after vraris, he was elected and ordained a ruling e 'der, in which office he continued to serve until the time of his death. During his last "mess, be mourned over his unfaithfulness as a christian and an elder, though in his life he wag as consistent as most who occupy such positions. He died in faith, not having received the promises but having seen them alar off, and was persuaded of them and em braced them.
