The Ladies' Aid Society request all contributions of money or fancy articles intended for the Sanitary Fair or Christian Commission to be sent to the house of Geo. W. Elder, Esq., by Thursday evening, as the Committee are desirous of forwarding such con tributions this week. The Delaine manufactured by a number of ladies through a sug gestion in the Gazette, is now finished and will remain at the residence of the editor until noon to-morrow. If any lady or gentleman desires to start its sale with a bid of not less than SSO, the name will be forwarded to the managers of the Fair. We are re quested by the projectors to return thanks to the ladies who rendered val uable assistance and manifested much interest in this contribution to the Fair. UNPATENTED LANDS. —The Legisla ture that has just adjourned, revived and continued in force until the first of November, mul only until then, the law known as the "Graduating Law," by which patents can be taken out at the rate of twenty cents per acre, without interest. This law was a very favorable one to our citizens, hut there still remain many to he taken out, and from the opposition made to extending the time, in the late Legislature, there is every reason to believe it can never again he extended. We hope, there fore, the people of this county will see to having all their lands patented be fore the first da}* of November coming. It will save them paying interest from the time the lands were first improved, which, if it had to be paid, would amount to more than three times the principal in most cases. ITEMS. —Owen Owens of Granville township, was severely injured a short time since by being thrown from a wagon, the horse having run into the woods and broken the vehicle to pie ces. Mrs. Brought was also in the wagon, and although thrown lrom 12 to 15 feet, fortunately fell in a muddy spot and escaped with a few bruises. The further span of the river bridge was taken down last week, leaving the flooring for travel, and if the weather proves favorable, that span will probably be replaced by the beginning of next week. Every heavy rain makes it evident that bet ter outlets for water must be eonstruet ed along the railroad in Water street. Those in Wayne street are especially detective, and at the Episcopal parson age the filing up of the street has cre ated a positive nuisance. Gotlieb Nighthart had his leg broken and was otherwise injured a few days ago by a bank of earth or a rock falling on him at the first railroad bridge. RUN OFF. —George Temple, a boy in the employ ot F. G. Franciscus, Esq., came near his latter end on Monday by catching the bridle of a horse about starting to run away. He was drag ged along Market street to the corner of Brown, when the cart attached went over a post, then to the bank corner were both horse and cart caught, which stopped his wild career. He kicked and tore to his utmost, but the harness proved too strong for him. The boy had dropped off the cart which passed directly over him, but without injury. | THE DRAFT.— The draft for this county came off at Ilollidaysburg yes terday with the following result: | IEWISTOWN-2 Men-Draft 8. i John Sipe Gideon M. OUR Doc..—The almost constant companion of our rambles in this neigh borhood for the past thirteen or four teen years, paid the debt of nature on Thursday night last, and is now, save in memory, among the things that were. We shall miss him for a long time, for so accustomed were we to be welcomed home, even when only absent for a few hours, that it will be difficult to realize the truth that he has passed* away, we know not whether into no nentity or as some good men believe into a new creation provided by Him who, if he has not endowed such ani mals with souls, has at least given them traits which put to shame beings crea ted in his own image. He came to us a stranger when probably two or three years old, and though but what is called a brute, when compared with the blackhearted piece of hypocrisy, malignity, envy and hatred of the thing who used to call himself "nephew," our faithful dog rises as far superior to that iugrate as gold is to the dregs of iron. The one was faithful and grateful to his dying hour—the other, who was indebted to us for far more solid benefits, ever since his hegira from Washington, has left no stone unturned to prove himself a villain. Be our last resting place where it may, far sooner would we sleep by the side of that trusty dog, than even near the carcass of a debauched libeler so ut terly lost to all sense of decency, hon or and integrity that he would with out question malign his own parents were they in the way of his groveling nature. OUR SOLDIERS. —Wo gather from different sources the following infor mation respecting our soldiers: Robert Dufur, son of Calvin Du fur, of company A, 55th Pa. regiment, was taken prisoner at the battle of Dru ry's Bluff. Daivd McCulloeh. brother in-law of D. E. Robeson, Esq., was wounded in the left arm in one of the recent bat tles. James Simmons, of this place, of the 20th cavalry, was wounded in the re cent fight at New Market under Sigel. John A. Davidsizer, of Co. C, Ist Pa. Cavalry, was wounded in the leg during u battle in Virginia. Capt. Barr, we are sorry to learn, had to suffer amputation of his leg. Benner, son of Capt. Aof March Bth, 1864. which provides that all Ronds j issued under this Act shall tie EXEMPT FR< >M TAX- A i ION by or under any state or municipal authority, j Subscriptions to these Bonds are received in United States notes or notes of National Banks. They are TO BE REDEEMED IN COIN, at the pleasure of the Government, at any period not less than ten nor j more than for to pears from their date, and until their redemption FIVE PER CENT. INTEREST WILL BE PAID IN COIN, on Bonds of not over one hun dred dollars annually and on all other Bonds semi- j annually The interest is payable on the first days of March and September in eaeh year. ■Subscribers will receive either Registered or Co a- ; pon Bonds, as thyy may prefer. Registered Bonds are recorded on the books of the U. 8. Treasurer, and can be transferred only on the owner's order. Cou pon Bonds are payable to bearer, and are more eon venieut for commercial uses. Subscribers to this loan will have the option of hav- j i in K their Bonds draw interest from March Ist. by paying the accrued interest in coin—(or in United Slates notes, or the notes of National Banks, adding fifty per cent, for premium,) or receive them drawing interest from the date of subscription and deposite. As these Bonds are Exempt from Municipal or State Taxation, their value is increased from one to three per cent, per annum, aceordiug to the rate of tax levies in va rious parts of the country. , At the present rate of premium on gold they pay Over Eight Per Cent. Interest in currency, and are of equal convenience as a per manent or temporary investment. It is believed that no securities offer so great induce ments to lenders as the various descriptions of U. S. Bonds. In all other forms of indebtedness, the faith or ability of private parties or stock companies or separate communities only is pledged for payment, while for the debts of the United States the whole property of the country is holden to seeure the pay ment of both principal and interest in coin. These Bouds may be subscribed for in sums from SSO up to any magnitude, on the same terms, and are thus made equally available to the smallest lender and the largest capitalist. They can be converted into money at any moment, and the holder will have the benefit of the interest. It may be useful to state tn this connection that the total fr unded Debt of the United States on which in terest is payable in gold, on the 3d day of March, 1861, was $708.965,000. The interest on this debt for the coming fiscal year will be $45,937,126, while the cus toms revenue in gold for the current fiscal year, ending June 30th, 1864, has been so far at the rate of over $100,000,000, per annum. It will be seen that even the present gold revenues of the Government are largely in excess of the wants ot the Treasury for the payment of gold interest, while the recent increase of the tariff will doubtless raise the anuual receipts from customs on the same amount ot importations, to $150,000,000 per annum. Instructions to the National Banks acting as loan agents were not issued from the United States Treas ury until March 26, but in the first three weeks of April the subscriptions averaged more than TEN MILLIONS A WEEK. Subscriptions will be received by the First National Bank of Philadelphia. I'a. Second National Bank of Philadelphia, Pa. Third National Bank of Philadelphia. Pa.
