IH3 G AZETTE . LOCAL AFFAIRS. THE DRAFT. —We learn that the quotas for the several districts in this county, under the call for 500,000 men, as they were registered on the Provost Marshal's books at Huntingdon last week, were as follows: Lewistown, 56 Granville, 17 Derry, 36 Decatur, 24 Armagh, 21 Brown, 23 Union, 24 Men no, 22 Oliver, 19 Bratton, 13 M'Veytown, 11 Wayne and N. Hamilton, 30 Total, 296 All therefore that the different dis tricts have now to do is to see that credits are given on these figures. Re enlisted veterans are credited accor ding to their rolls, and these cannot be changed from one district to anoth er. It may also be worth while to in quire whether some such credits have not already been given, leaving the above number to be supplied, for to our mind several look out of all pro portion as they stand. That this has been done is quite likely, as we learn from an authentic source that all en listments and re-enlistments since Oc tober are a credit on the two calls for men; consequently if lecent re-enlist ments were not yet credited when the above was furnished the marshals, Lewistown and some other districts are "out of the woods." Bounty com mittees it is certain cannot be too care ful in disbursing funds entrusted to their care, as it would be rather a hard case to pay out §SOOO or §6OOO for a district and then stand a draft besides. The following instructions, which •we have met with since the above was in type, we believe to be correct, read ily account for the disproportion noted in some districts, and will enable our eitizens to go to work in the right way. Ist. That the several sub districts re ceive credit for all such volunteers as may have been mustered into the service of the United States, since the last draft, and that the number so credited be deducted from their quota under the recent call. 2d If the man receive any local boun ty front any particular locality, they are to be credited to that locality. 3d. If they do not receive any local bounty, they are to be credited to the place at which they enlist or their actual resi dence, if they have one, as they may se lect. 4th. Veterans re-enlisted in the field, will be credited according to their muster rolls, provided, that their residence, or the locality to which their credit is due, is no ted therein. Muster rolls defective as to these statements, will be completed by supplementary muster-rolls, to be made out by the respective company comman ders, and forwarded by them to the office of the Acting Assistant Provost Marshal General at Ilarrisburg, with the certified copies of the defective rolls. sth. The assign ment, decision, announce ment and bestowal of credits of this dis trict will be either by the Provost Mar shal General, or under his direction, or by the Acting Assistaut Provost Marshal Gen eral at Ilarrisburg. Gth. The Provost Marshal General has directed the premium of §25 and §ls to be paid to any non commissioned officer, private or citizen who presents unaccepted recruit. 7. No transfers can now be made in the enrollment, unless specially authorized by the act now before Congress—the time for all alterations having expired Jan. sth. Bth. It should be borne in mind that the quotas heretofore published will not in all cases be correct. The real quotas are much larger, but are to be reduced by deducting from them : Ist. The number of volunteers furnish ished by each sub district subsequent to the late draft and prior to the 31st of January 1864, and duh/ reported as such. 2d. The number of men held to service under the late draft or who paid comiuuta tion or furnished substitutes. The balance thus ascertained constitutes the number to be drafted from each Bub-district, subject to a credit for such vol unteers as each may furnish between Feb. Ist, and Feb. 29, 1864. LEWISTOWN FURNACE. —We learn that there is a prospect that this furn ace will be put in operation by a firm with ample means, a consummation devoutly to be wished for, if we may be allowed to use the expression. An abundance of superior ore is now known to exist on tbe farm of Henry Ort, in Deny township, a considera ble quantity of which has been mined by Col. Irwin, and we know of no reas on why the best quality of iron should not be made at this establishment as well as elsewhere. BPR. Captain Dickey's comjpaoy, &t-h regiment U. S. colored troops, we learn was in the engagements in Flor ida, and lost a lew men. The regiment behaved splendidly, not a man falter ing iu advancing Qn a battery. THE WEATHER. —Wednesday in tensely cold all day, thermometer below zero; clear with a high wind. Thursday clear, wind abated, but very cold. Friday clear and moderating. Saturday cloudy, not cold. Sunday ditto. Monday cloudy all day, with a little rain late in the afternoon; even ing clear; rain late in the night. Tues day clear and pleasant in forenoon, cloudy in afternoon. Local bounty committees will materially facilitate applicants to the Relief Board, by handing in to the Senior Editor of the Gazette certified lists of men mustered into the service and credited to tins county, the latter be ing an imperative requirement. Robert W. Patton, at his Jew elry Store in East Market stieet, be tween Ritz's Drugstore and the Mifflin County Bank, has just received a new stock of Watches, consisting of Amer ican, Patent Lever, Detached Lever, all neat, cheap and durable. BY ENLISTING IN THE FIRST Pi RIBERVI CAVALRY, Or any other Pennsylvania Regiment or Battery now in Service, S4OO Bounty-—s73 in Advance, will be paid to all men who re enlist, pro tided they have served nine months and have been honorably discharged. S3OO Bounty—s73 in Advance, will be paid to men whj enlist for the first time. Payment will be made as follows :—At the Principal Depot after being mustered into service, veterans, SOO,OO ; new recruits ' $60,00 ; also, one menth's pay in advance, $13,00 —total to each, $73,00. The remainder of the bounty will be paid in six equal instalments. Persons enlisting at the present time can have themselves credited to any Ward, Township or County in the State, and will thereby receive a Local Bounty of from one hundred and thirty to two hundred dollars, in addition to the United States Bounty.
