THE iiftfrDS3333iaa=> RECIPES. From the Farmer and Gardner. Cheap Recipe for Good Ink. —Take 2 oz. extract logwood, J oz. bichromate of potash, and i oz. prussiate of potash; add to one gallon of boiling rain water. Shake up and let stand awhile before us ing Cost about ten cents. How to Make a Set of very Pretty Col lars and Cuffs. —Procure a piece of mus lin, cambric or fine linen ; cut your collars and cuffs from any pattern you have by you. Having done this procure a piece of colored jaconet or muslin. Choose one with some pretty small flower in peach, blue, pink, or even green. We have seen both prints and muslin with flowers sprin kled over the pattern. Choose these, and tuck them in a row round your collars and cuffs; get some white braid, and then stitch the braid round the flowers with ingrain cotton (of the color your flowers may chance to be.) The style is new, pretty and use- j ful. The colored flowers can be introduc ed in embroidery patterns, and look well. Care should be taken that the flowers of print muslin will wear washing. Another way to put flowers on the col- ! lar3 and cuffs, is to tack on your flower and button-hole, stitch it around ith white or colored cotton, then cut away the muslin or itnen from underneath the flowers. If la- j dies are not able to procure good ingrain : cotton, they may use fine colored worsted. . ! Uou to tell Seedlinys that will Produce Double I loners. —The Journal of the Par ; is Horticultural Society states that an ex perienced Italian cultivator of florists'flow ers, Signor Higomonti. has discovered how to distinguish between single and double pinks in the- seedling state. Those hariny as usual, but 'ire leaves, while those having three leaves will produce doublejlnwers. — He thinks the test infallible. Curt /or Par ache. —Take a small piece of citton wool, make a depression in the centre with the end of the finger, and fill it with as much ground pepper as will rest on a five cent piece, gather it into a ball and tie it up; dip the ball into sweet oil and insert it in the ear, covering the latter with cotton wool, and use a bandage or cap to retain it in its place.
