A6ftl€flETU ML Pumpkins Among 1 Corn. A writer in tlie ->• If- Journal oi Agri •ulture says ; 'Many fanners plant pumpkins with heir corn. A few may not injure it per •ptibly. It is believed by some that it Acs as much nourishment to grow a good :zed pumpkin as a good hill ot corn. If lis be the case, where a number of loads are grown to tbe acre, we think the pump kin cannot he of so much value as the corn is diminished.' The sentiment here expressed is held by many. Now, who has ever known that tuuipkins injured corn? i ncertain knowl edge is no knowledge at all, so to speak. Who has any knowledge of pumpkins in juring the corn ? The corn lias the tir.-t ehanoe at the son and air, at the dew and showers, at the oil and manure. The pumpkins are plan ted later, and where the corn fails or is thin, or perhaps are planted uniformly over the field, and at most there will not be more than one pumpkin vine to twenty-five corn plants. Com takes one class of sub stances from the earth, the pumpkins quite a different class, and so it seems to us that with the knowledge of many a load ot fine pumpkins raised among and no proof that materially or any less corn is raised, it is sale to plant pumpkins with all small stalked, low growing kinds of corn at any rate. If tlie land is in good condition, the amount of fodder lost by using a small stocked variety of corn will be more than made up by the yield of the pumpkins Large varieties of corn shade the ground so that the pumpkins seldom do well. — Homestead. How to Get Rid of Boulders. < >ne of the easiest ways to get rid of boulders, or 'hard heads,' as they are call ed in some parts of the country, is to sink them. It not wanted for wall building, it will cost more to drill aad blast and haul away, than to dig a pit and tumble them in, so that the upper surface will beat least a foot under ground and quite out of the way of plowing. Kxamine the stone and select tbe lower or most favorable side and dig a pit. going partly under the stone, aud deep enough so as to be sure to have room, and then with crowbars, levers, or oxen, tumble tbe stone into the pit and level the dirt over, and yuu will be surprised to see how easy you have got rid of a troublesome occupant of your field. A man will some times bury a stone in a day that could not be blasted and hauled out for live dollars. Tr i E -if- JP 24it 4. 4ii Blackberry Wine and Cordial. IjAINTED BUCKETS at 25 ets. aaob. feb 14 JOHN KENNEDY & C.o I Scrofula, or King's Evil, is a constitutional disease, a corruption of the blood, by which this fluid becomes vitiated, weak, and poor. Being in the circulation, it pervades the whole body, and may burst out in disease on any part of it. No organ is free from its attacks, nor is there one which it may not destroy. The scrofulous taint is variously caused by mercurial disease, low living, dis ordered or unhealthy food, impure air, filth and filthy habits, the depressing vices, and, above all, by the venereal infection. "What ever be its origin, it is hereditary in the con stitution, descending " from parents to children unto the third and fourth indeed, it seems to be the rod of Him who says, • I will visit the iniquities of the fathers upon their children." Its effects commence by deposition from the blood of corrupt or ulcerous matter, which, in the lungs, liver, and internal organs, is termed tubercles; in the glands, swellings; and on the surface, eruptions or sores. This foul cor ruption, which genders in the blood, depresses the energies of life, so that scrofulous constitu tions not only suffer from scrofulous com- j plaints, but they have far less power to with stand the attacks of other diseases; conse- i quently, vast numbers perish by disorders which, although not scrofulous in their nature, i are still rendered fatal by this taint in the • -vstcm. Most of the consumption which de cimates the human family has its origin directly t in this scrofulous contamination; and many destructive diseases of the liver, kidneys, brain, j and, indeed, of all the organs, arise from or j j are aggravated by the same cause. One quarter of all our people are scrofulous; j their persons are invaded by this lurking in fection, and their health is undermined by it, To cleanse it from the system we must renovate the blood by an alterative medicine, and in vigorate it by healthy food and exercise. Such a medicine we supply in AVER'S Compound Extract of Sarsaparilla. the most effectual remedy which the medical j skill of our times can devise Air this every where prevailing and fatal malady. It is com bined from the most active remedial* that have been discovered for the expurgation of tliis foul disorder from the blood, and the rescue of the system from its destructive consequences. Ilence it should be employed for the cure of not only scrofula, but also those other affec tions which arise from it, such as ERUPTIVE and SKIN DISEASES, ST. ANTHONY'S FIRE, ROSE, or ERYSIPELAS, PIMPLES, PUSTULES, BLOTCHES, BLAIXS and BOILS, TUMORS, TETTER j and SALT RHEUM, SCALD HEAD, RINGWORM, j RHEUMATISM, SYPHILITIC and MERCURIAL DIS- 1 EASES, DROPSY, DYSPEPSIA, DEBILITY, and, indeed, ALL COMPLAINTS ARISING FROM VITIA TED OR IMPURE BLOOD, The popular belief in " impurity of ihe blood " is founded in truth, for scrofula is a degeneration of the blood, lite ; particular purpose and virtue of this Sarsapa rilla is to purify and regenerate this vital fluid, without which sound healih is impossible in contaminated constitutions. Ayers Cathartic Pills, FOR ALL THE PURPOSES OF A FAMILY PHYSIO, are so composed that disease within the range of their action can rarely withstand or evade them Their penetrating properties search, and cleanse, j and invigorate every portion of the human organ ism, correcting its diseased action, and restoring its healthy vitalities. As a consequence of these j properties, the invalid who is bowed down with ! pain or physical debility js astonished to find his i health or energy restored by a remedy at once so i simple and inviting. Not only do they cure the every-day complaints j of every body, but also many formidable and j dangerous diseases. The agent below named is : pleased to furnish gratis mv American Almanac, ' containing certificates of their cures and directions for their use in the following complaints : Costive- j ness, Heartburn, Headache arising from disordered Stomach, Aausca, Indigestion, l'atn in and Morbid ( Inaction of the Bowels, Flatulency, Loss of Appe tite, Jaundice, and other kindred complaints, arising frosn a low state of the body or obstruction of its functions. Ayers Cherry Pectoral, FOR THE RAPID CURE OF Coughs, Colds, Influenza, Hoarseness, Croup, Bronchitis, Incipient Consump tion, and for the relief of Consumptive I'utients iu advanced stages of the disease* So wide is tho field of its usefulness and so nu merous are the cases of its cures, that almost • every section of country abounds in persons pub licly known, who have been restored from alarming and even desperate diseases of the lungs by its use. "When once tried, its superiority over every other medicine of its kind is too apparent to cscap'e observation, and where its virtues are known, the public no longer hesitate what antidote to employ for the distressing and dangerous affections of the ; pulmonary organs that are incident to our climate. While many inferior remedies thrust upon the community "have failed and been discarded, this has gained friends by every trial, conferred benefits on the afflicted they can never forget, and pro duced cures too numerous and too remarkable to be forgotten.
