Hal The Kock That is Higher Than I. In seasons of grief to my Ood 1 11 repair. When my heart Is overwhelmed with sorrow and care, From the ends of the earth unto Thee will I cry, " Lead me to the Rock that Is higher than I." When Satan, the tempter, comes in like a llood. And wonld draw ray poor soul from the fountain of good, I will gird on my armor. In faith loud I'll cry, •' Lead me to the Kock that Is higher than I." When sickness overwhelms me, and pain Is severe. And none be about to comfort and clieer, I will pray to my Saviour, who for me did die, " Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I." And when I have ended my pilgrimage here. In Jesns' pure rlghteousuess may I appear! In the swellings of Jordan assured I'll rely Upon Jesus, the Rock that is higher than I. And when the last trump shall sound through the skies, And the dead from the dust of the earth shall arise. With the millions I'll join, far above yonder sky. To praise the dear Rock that is higher than I. BteticuUural> kc. WEEDS IX GARDEXS. Nearly every garden is infested with a number of unnecessary weeds, and that chiefly because they arc allowed to go to seed before any serious attempt is made to exterminate them. A single plant often has a hundred or more seeds with which to propogate its kind. What folly, then, to complain of weeds, if we allow them to sow themselves broad cast over our gardens! If our weeds were perennial plants, like the Canada thistle and quick-grass, the ease would be differ ent; b'i f they are mostly aunuals which need only to be k nt from ripening their seeds to secure their extirpation. In Chi na, and some portions of Europe, weeds in gardens are said to be almost unknown, simply as the result of long continued cul tivation. A certain county in Pennsylva nia is reputed to have rid itself of the Canada thistle, and there are gardens here and there, in our neighborhood, in which weeds are comparatively strangers. Seeds we know, will steal over and from adjoin ing lields into the best managed gardens; but their number will be comparatively small, and the labor of keeping them in subjection not great, if none are allowed to go to seed in the garden itself. Jacob, at the Itepot, N'o. 99, opposite the Burnet House, and 113 West Third street, Cincinnati, and find them both rise and FREE front all poisonous or deleterious drugs, and as such have marked the same as the law directs. Given under my hand at my office. [•Signed] lilt AM Cox, R1 I)., Inspector of Alcoholic Liquors, Sic. New YORK, 93 Prince st., July 28, 1857. Dear Sir:—l have received a bottle of Lyons' Pure Ohio Catawba Brandy, furnished by Mr. A. Ralston, Jr., of Lockport, N. Y„ fur analyzation, and I find it to con tain only those ingredients which exist in PLRK BRANDY. The proportion of alcohol obtained from it is 47.00. 1 believe this sample to be pure Brandy without adultera tion—the flavor of it is delicate and peculiar. [Signed.] JAR. 11. CHILTOK, M. D , Chemist. The OHIO CATAWBA BRANDY not only equals but even excels the best imported Brandies in purity and flavor. It is in fact the BEST Brandy known. This statement is fully corroborated by the certificates of many of our most distinguished analytical Chemists. The want of pure Brandy has long been felt in this coun try, and the introduction of an article of such quality as to supersede the sale and use of those vile compounds hitherto sold under the name of Brandy, can only be re garded as a great public good. The Catawba Brandy possesses all the good qualities claimed for the best im ported liquor, and is of perfect purity and superior flavor. It is therefore fully entitled to the patronage of the pub lie. We feel confident that its reception in this State will be as favorable as that which it has met with in the Great West, and that the time is not far distant when the superiority of our own liquors will put an end to their importation from abroad. For Medicinal purposes this Brandy has no rival, and has long been needed. It Is a sovereign and sure reme dy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Low Spirits, Languor, General Debility, Ac. BANFORD, Compounded entirely from fit MS, TS one of the best Purgative and Liver Medicines now i- before the public, that acts aa a Cathartic, easier, mild er, and more effectual than any other medicine known. It is not only a Cathartic, but a Liver remedy, acting first on the Liver to eject its morbid matter, then on the stom ach and bowels to carry off that matter, thus accomplish ing two purposes effectually, without any of the painful feelings experienc d In the operations of most Cathartics. It strengthens the system at the same lime that it purges it, and when taken daily in moderate doses will strength en and build it up with unusual rapidity. The Liver is one of the principal regulators oft he human body ; and when it performs its functions well the powers of thesys- . tern are fully developed. The stomach is almost en- tirely dependent on the healthy action of the Liver . for the proper perform ance of its functions ; when the stomach is at fault the bowels are at fault, and the whole sys tem suffers in consequence of one organ—the |,T v BR —having ceased to Oi do its duty. For the dis eases of that organ, one of the proprietors lias made it his study, in a £3 practice of more than 20 years, to find some rerne- H-H dy wherewith to counter act the many derange- inents to which it is liable To prove that this remedy is at last found, any person troubled with Liv- | 1 ER COMPLAINT in any of its forms, has but to try a bottle and conviction is certain. One dose lakena short time before eating gives vigor to the appetite and makes food digest well One dose often repeated cures CitnoNtc DIARRHEA in its worst forms, and Summer and Bowel Complaints yield almost to the first dose. One or two doses cures attacks caused by Worms in Children ; there is no surer, safe.r or speed ier remedy in the world, as it NEVER fails. A few bottles cures DROPSY, by exciting the absorbents. VVe take pleasure in recommending this medicine as a preventive for FEVER AND AGUE, CHILI. FEVER, and all Fevers of a Bilious Type. PROFESSOR WOOD'S HAIR RESTORATIVE. We would call the attention of all, old and young, to ill s wonderful preparation which turns back to in origi nal color gray hair, covers the head with a luxuriant growth, removi-s the dandruff, itching, and all , utaneous eruptions, causes a continual flow of the natural fluids, and hence, if used as a regular dressing for the hair will preserve its color, and keep it from falling to extreme old age, in alt its natural beauty. We call then upon the bald, the gray, or diseased in scalp, to use it; and surely she young .will not, as they value the flowing locks or the witching curl, ever be without it. Its praise is upon the tongue of thousands. The agent for Prof. Wood's Hair Restorative in New Haven, received the follow ing letter in regard to the Restorative a few weeks since : DEEP RIVER, CONN., July 23, 1850. Mr. Leavenworth—Sir:—l have been troubled with dandruff or scurf on my head fur more lhan a year, my hair began to come out, scurf and hair together. I saw in a New Haven paper about 'Wood's Hair Restorative* as a cure. I called at your store on the Ist of April last, and purchased one bottle to try il, and I found to my sat isfaction it was the thing; it removed the scurf and new hair began to grow; it is now two or three inches in length where it was ALL off. I have great faith in it. I wish you to send me two bottles more by Mr. Post, the bearer of this. 1 don't know as any of the kind is used in ibis place ; you may have a market for many bottles after il is known here. Yours with respect, RUFIJS PRATT. PHILADELPHIA, September 9, 1856. Prof. Wood—Dear Sir:—Your Hair Restorative is pro ving itself beneficial to me. The front, and also the back part of my head almost lost its covering—in fact BALD. I have used but two half pint bottles of your Restorative ai.d now the top of my head is well studded with a prom ising crop of young hair, and the front is also receiving its benefit. I have tried other preparations without any benefit whatever. I think from my own personal recom mendalioo I can induce many others lo try it. Yours respectfully, 1). It. THOMAS, M. It entirely cleanses the head of dandruff, and with one month's proper use will restore any person's hair lo the original youthful color and texture, giving it a healthy, soft and glossy appearance ; and all this without discoloring the hands that apply It, or the dress on which il drops. Have in many cases defied llie skill, heretofore, of the best medical practitioners in the world, and many cases have been abandoned as Incurable. Dr. J. Abernethy and J Johnston, England, and observing the nature of the dis ease in all its stages, during a sojourn in the southern and western portions of the United States, where it pre vails to a greater extent than elsewhere, procured from South America certain roots and herbs from which he prepared an "Elixir,*' which, after eighteen years' use in private practice, has proved itself more efficacious in the cure of Dyspepsy than any medicine that has ever been prepared in any age or clime for the same purjiose. Having submitted it, with an explanation of its compo nents, to a number of physicinns of Philadelphia, among whom were lite late Drs. Joseph Hartsliorne and J. C. Morton, it has received their entire approval, and many of ihe medical faculty are now not only prescribing it for their palienls but are using it themselves, personally and in their families. As a tonic it is unequalled, and its properties are of so invigorating a nature that it is given with perfect safety and success tothe most tender infants. The Elixir is very gradual, but certain in its action upon the organs of digestion, the increased secretions of the liver, pancreas and mucous membranes of the stomach, and requires that only one dose be taken in twenty-four hours; fur confirmed Dyspepsy can only be cured by grad i,ally restoring Ihe organs of digestion to a healthy slate The great success met with in curing the inosi aggravated cases of Dyspepsy, accompanied sometimes with a high grade of hypochondriasis, has established the most un bounded confidence in the curative properties of ihis Elixir, in corroboration of which read Ihe following testi monials : ATTESTATION We, liaving used Williams' AntlDys peptic Elixir with the most perfect satisfaction and suc ress, take great pleasure in recommending it to all per sons suffering with Dyspepsy, as we are fully convinced of its most estimable qualities in restoring Ihe digestive powers, removing all pains and uneasiness, and impart ing a healthy tone to the stomach.
