Professor Wharton, of Kenyon College, contributes to the Protestant Episcopal Quarterly Review for this month a brief but highly interesting article on the M<n vdiscs Terr <?>•/' or Bad Lands of Nebraska. He maintains that, "so lar :w> the occupa tion of arable land* is concerned/' (on this side of the Rocky mountains,) t- we have reached the extreme limit of our territorial extension, striking westward front the Mis souri valley." The eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains is bounded by a 4 * vast extent of rainless plains." Between these plains and the head waters of the Missouri lie the very remarkable deserts above na med—a formation found in Central and Northern Nebraska, in Western Kansas and Arkansas. This formation, belonging to ' O O ihe age known by geologists as the Early Tertiary, is described as " a basin of fossil cemeteries, sinking nearly two hundred feet below the adjacent surface," and covered with " an infinite series of minaret-looking peaks, some jutting up two hundred feet." 1 lie fossil remains here found indicate that this region was inhabited by gigantic atii- j wills, vastly superior in size to those of the age of the mastodon and the mammoth; and differing in their specific character, not these and all living animals, j "but also from all fossils obtained from contemporaneous geological formations." \t the time these monsters lived in what were the tropical forests of this region, there were but a few islands where are now the continents of what we call "the Old Worldwhile our Atlantic coast, up to the base of the Alieghcnies, was submerg ed beneath the ocean. Professor W. maintains that the fossils of this region demonstrate the fact of a specific creation and extraction of races; and " that the members of this creation are united by no lineage with periods that pro ceed and follow them." KENNEDY, of Roxbury, has discovered in one of our common pasture weeds a remedy that cures Every Kind of Humor from the worst Scrofula down to a common Pimple. HE has tried it in over 1 KM) cases, and never failed ex cept in two cases, (both thunder humor.) He hag now in his possession over two hundred certificates of its virtue, all within twenty miles of Boston. Two bottles are warranted to cure a nursing Sore Mouth. . , . Onejto three bottles will cure the worst kind off imp.es on the Face Two to three bottles will clean the system of Biles. Two bottles are warranted to cure the worst Canker in the Mouth and Stomach. Three to live bottles are warranted to cure the worst case of Erysipelas. One to two bottles are warranted to cure all Humor in the eyes. Two bottles are warranted to cure Running of the Ears and Blotches among the Hair. Four to six bottles are warranted to cure corrupt and running Ulcers. One bottle will cure Scaly Eruption of the skin. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the worst case of Ringworm. Two to three bottles are warranted to cure the most desperate case of Rheumatism. Three to four bottles are warranted to cure the Salt Rheum. Five to eight bottles will cure the worst case of Scrof l ula A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle, and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quanti ty is taken. Reader, I peddled over a thousand bottlesofthis in the vicinity of Boston. 1 know the effect of it in every case. So sure as water will extinguish fire, aosure will this cure humor I never sold a bottle of it but that sold an other; after a trial it always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appears to me sur prising ; first that it grows in our pastures, in some pla ees quite plentiful, nnd yet its value has never been known until I discovered it in 1816—second, that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of the sudden rise and great popularity of the discovery, ! will state that in April, 1853, 1 peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—ln April, 1854. Isold over one thousand bottles per day of it. Some of tbe wholesale Druggists who have been in business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There is a universal praise of it from all quarters In my own practice I alwayskept it strictly for humors —bm since its introduction asa general family medicine, great and wonderful virtues have been found in it that I never suspected. Several cases of epileptic fits—a disease which was always considered incurable, have been cured by a few bottles. O, what a mercy if it will prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are few who have seen more of it than I have. I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged people, cured by it. For the various diseases of the I.iv .-r, Sick Headache, Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, Pain in the Side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly in diseases of the Kidneys, 4tc., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever know n. No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best you get and plenty of it. DIRECTIONS EOB US*.— Adults one table spoonful per day—Children over 10 years, dessert spoonful—Children from sto 6 years, tea-spoonful.
