Siflrtcultural, see. DON'T SELL YOUR BEST STOCK. Don't allow the speculators and drovers to pick out the likeliest and best of your stock, leaving you only the ordinary and poorest to breed from. It is the worst policy you can adopt. By continuing j such a course, it will be but a short time before you will have only ordinary and poor to select from. Supposing you can get a little more for this likely lamb than ; for the others, you will do well to remem- j ber that it cost no more to keep them than it does poor ones; and next shearing lime the fleeces will tell the story in favor of keeping the best you have. If you intend to make a practice of rais ing a colt every year, keep the best mare you can afford. Haven't you noticed that when a man comes lo purchase a young horse he is always particular to ask about the stock, &c., before he con cludes his trade ? Keep the best, then, for yourself. Dou't sell your best cow because you can get five dollars more for her. Keep her, and she will more than make up the difference ere another year comes around. Select the best seed for your own use, and you will always have as good as any one, and be sure of the highest price for any you may wish to dispose of. Think of it. REMEDY FOR BURNS. 1 have so often seen remedies for human ills given in the newspapers, and then at once consigned to oblivion, that I have for a great while hesitated to present this to the public. For fourteen years I have prescribed it and witnessed its healing effects. I deliberately say, from fourteen years' experience, that no disease or injury to the human system has a more certain remedy than this for the most distressing of all injuries, that of scalds or burns. The relief is almost instantaneous; from a minute or two to half an hour will usually find a full relief from oain, no matter what is the extent of the burn, even if all the skin is removed frcm the body. The first knowledge I had of it was the almost mirac ulous cure of a little boy, who fell into a half hogshead of boiling water, prepared for scald ing the bristles from swine. The entire per son and the limbs of the boy passed under the scalding water and up to the chin, so as to scald his whole neck. On removing his clothes nearly all bis skin followed from his extremities. In this deplorable condition, literally flayed alive with scalding water, the remedy was promptly applied as a momenta ry application until the physicians should ar rive. Two eminent physicians soon came, und on learning the extent of the scald, pro nounced it a certainly fatal case, and directed the boy to remain with the remedy over him until he should die. In six weeks he was re stored quite well, with scarcely a scar on any part of his person or limbs. The remedy in creases in value front the fact that under al most all circumstances it may be obtained.— It is as follows:—Take soot from a chimney where wood is burned, rub it fine, and mix one part soot to three parts, or nearly so, of hog's lard, fresh butter, or any kind of fresh grease that is not salted; spread this on linen or muslin, or any cotton cloth for easier and more perfect adaptation. In very extensive burns or scalds, the cloth should be torn into strips before putting it on. Let the remedy be freely and fully applied, so as to perfectly cover all the burned parts. No other appli cation is required until the patient is well, except to apply fresh applications of the soot and lard, &c. In steamboat explosions, this remedy can in nearly all cases be at once applied, and if done, many valuable lives will be saved and a vast amount of suffering alleviated. TO RAISE GIANT ASPARAGUS. The writer in one of the early volumes of the Horticulturist, (.Mr. Downing, we believe,) telb how to grow common asparagus so that it will always rival any giant production. lie says: Every ouo who has seen my beds lias beg ged me for seed—thinking it a new sort —but I have pointed to the manure heap, (the far mer's best bank,) and told them that the se cret all laid there. The sight was only what might be iu every garden. About the first of November—as soou as the frost has well blackened the asparagus tops—l take a scythe and mow all close the surface of the bed; let it lie a day or two, then set fire to the heap of stocks and burn it to ashes over the surface of the bed. I then go to my barn .yard. I take a load of ell :au fresh stable manure, and add thereto half a bushel of lion dung, turning over and mixing the whole together throughout. This makes a pretty powerful compost. I apply one such load to every twenty feet in length of my beds, which are six feet wide. With a strong three-pronged spud or fork, I dig this dressing under. The whole is now left for winter. In the spring, as early as possible, I turn the tops of the beds over lightly once more. Now, as the asparagus grows naturally on the side of the ocean and loves salt water, I give it an aunual supply of its favorite condiment. I cover the surface of the bed about a quarter of an inch thick with fine packing salt; it is not too much. As the spring rains come on it gradually dissolves. Everything else, pig weed, purslane, &c., all refuse to grow on the top of my asparagus beds. But it would do your eyes good to see the strong, stout, tender stalks of the vegetable itself pushing through j tho surface early in the season. Ido not ai all stretch the point, when I say that they are j as large around" as my hoe handle, and as ; tender and succulentfw any I ever tasted.— The same round of treatment is given to my bed every year. THE GREATEST MEDICAL DISCOVERY OF THE AGE. DR. KENNEDY, of Roxbury, has discovered in one our common pasture weeds a remedy ihat cures Every Kind of Humor from the worst Scrofula down to a common Pimple. HE has tried it in over 1100 cases, and never failed ex cept in two cases, (both thunder humor.) lie has now in his possession over two hundred certificates of its virtue, all within twenty mites of Boston. Two hottles are warranted to cure a nursing Sore Mouth. One to three bottleswill cure the worst kindof Pimples 011 the Face Two to three bottles will clean the system of Biles. Fiveto eight bottles will cure the worst case of Scrof | u,a - A benefit is always experienced from the first bottle, j and a perfect cure is warranted when the above quanti- I ty is taken. Reader, 3 peddled over a thousand bottlesof this in the vicinity of Boston. 1 know the effect of it in every case So sore as water will extinguish fire, sostire will this cure humor. 1 never sold a bottle of it but that sold an other; afieratrial it always speaks for itself. There are two things about this herb that appears to nie sur prising; first that it grows in our pastures, in some pla ees quite plentiful, and yet its value has never been known until 1 discovered it in 1816—Second, that it should cure all kinds of humor. In order to give some idea of tlie suddfti rise and great popularity of the discovery, 1 will state that in April, 1853. 1 peddled it and sold about six bottles per day—in April, 1854, Isold over one thousand bottles per day of it. Some of the wholesale Druggists who have been in business twenty and thirty years, say that nothing in the ! annals of patent medicines was ever like it. There is a I universal praise of it from all quarters. In my own practice I always kept it strictly for humors I —but since its introduction asa general family medicine, ! great and wondetful virtues have been found in it that 1 I ® , j never suspected. Several case... of epileptic fits —a disease which was always considered incurable, have been cured by a lew bottles. O, w hat a mercy if it will prove effectual in all cases of that awful malady—there are few who have seen more of it than 1 have. I know of several cases of Dropsy, all of them aged ! people, cured by it. For the various diseases of the Liv j er, Sick Headache. Dyspepsia, Asthma, Fever and Ague, j Pain in the Side, Diseases of the Spine, and particularly ; in diseases of the Kidneys, &.C., the discovery has done more good than any medicine ever known. j No change of diet ever necessary—eat the best you j get and plenty of it. M. B iwinan—Dear tBir:—l feel ii my duty to let you know what your compound has done for my daugh ter, and wish you to publish it if you can in hope that some suffering one may be induced by it to try your val liable medicine and be cured. My daughter was married in 1853, and went to Cincinnati to live, where her hus band (James Iloyt,) was engaged in business. In six months after her husband died, and I sent for her to come home, \\ h re in four months she was confined and caught cold which settled on her lungs. It seem-tl as though we could get nothing to help her. We tried six different physicians for over one year and then sent to New York to a celebrated physician there, and she took niedicinc from him for eight months; but be could not cure her. — Her cough was fixed and stubborn and seemed as though it would tear her breast during the paroxysm of cough, and her breathing was at limes very difficult. Failing lo get relief from physicians, we thought we would try Ay er's Cherry Pectoral, and she took it regular for seven weeks, but it did her no permanent good. We then tried •Sellers' Imperial Cough Syrup, but with all she still be came worse, anil it seemed as though she was beyond cure, when one day my wife was hi at one of our neigh bor's houses (Mr. Miyness') and she saw them give your Vegetable Compound to one of their children for a cough i and she got three or four doses to bring home and try it. J After my daughter had taken it she breathed a little eas j ier, and we sent and gut a bottle of it, and, when it was i taken there was a matked change for the better. I then j gut six bottles, the most of which she took as directed | until finally cured —it is three months since, and she has not had a symptom of the old complaint, and is getting as lusty as she ever was. We all unite in our prayers to God that you may be prospered and that your Vegetable Compound may be the means of restoring health ton.any, as it ha to one who is dear to us ; we cheerfully recom mend it to the public as the best medicine for Lung Dis eases that we ever got hold of. Try it suffering one and see. Believe me, my dear sir, to ever remain Your earnest friend, TllOa. 11. BANKS. Philadelphia, Aug. 13, 1856.
