As it is, not even a yell is heard front these " faithful guardians of the people's rights." THURSDAY, May 27. 1 he Senate, after disposing of some unim portant business, took up the deficiency bill. No vote of consequence was taken. The Mouse ordered to a third reading the bill to grant to Missouri the right of way and a donation of lands to aid in constructing the St. Josephs and Hannibal and St. Louis railroad. The Indian appropriation bill was then taken up in committee of the whole ; the slavery question and the presidency were discussed : the committee rose and the House adjourned. FRIDAY, May 28. The Senate took up the deficiency bill. The amendment giving the Collins line of steamers *33,000 a trip instead of the present allowance, was agreed to —yeas 27, nays 19. The amendments were acted on, and the bill was ordered to be engrossed for a third read ing. The bill to enable the government to deepen the passes of the Mississippi river was passed. Adjourned. The House, by a vote of 103 to 73, passed the bill granting the right of way and about g.tMMt.OOO acres of the public laud to aid in constructing the St. Josephs and St. Louis railroads. The Indian appropriation bill was taken up in committee of the whole, and Messrs. Campbell, of Illinois, and (Mark, de bated it. after which the committee rose and the House adjourned. SATURDAY, May 29. Senate not in session. The House wrangled about a public land bill and about the order of business until ad journment. MONDAY, May 31. The Senate took up the deficiency bill, and after some debate, passed it. Without trans acting any business of importance, the Sen ate adjourned over until Thursday next. In Belfast, the extensive firm of Sinclair & Boyd has stopped payment, with liabilities amounting to £ 117,000. A new Austrian loan of £2,250,000, was about to be issued at London, bearing n per cut. interest. The most important feature of political news, is an address by Lord John RusscW, to the Electors of the city of London, in which lie announces himself as a candidate for tlicir suffrages at the ensuing election. This re futes the rumor of his being about to receive an appointment to the Peerage. The address reviews his career in the late Ministry, and bids high for popularity and the office. The liberal candidate has been returned from Windsor, by a large majority. The new Crystal Palace project excites great interest. FRANCE. —The mission of M. Be Heekcron, from Napoleon to the Emperors of Ikissia and Austria, has proved a complete failure, having been refused an audience from both. The sale of the paintings belonging to the late Marshal Soult, rcali/ 1 d about 1.*00,000 francs'. The Paris papers are chiefly occupied with speculations, in relation to the coalition formed against Napoleon by the Northern powers, during the recent visit of the Czar. The London Times publishes the .substance of the notes drawn by the Northern powers, who don't object to Napoleon's becoming an Elective Emperor, but announce the determi nation to resist any attempt to found or per petuate an Imperial dynasty. Stevens, aged about 24 years, died on Thursday last, from the-effects of Creosote. The Whigs of Baltimore inform all who desire to attend the Whig National Conven tion, that ' the latch-string is out.' On the 14th ult., hail stones four inches long and which in some cases killed cattle, fell near Parkersburg, Va. The statement that Mrs. Clay hud never been in Washington, is incorrect. She lias been there often, but many years ago. In Tennessee, a man has been condemned to live vears' imprisonment for marrying his niece. A horrible and fatal accident happened on Sunday afternoon la*t, by which Mr. Samuel I . Loekert, an enterprising and worthy citi zen of Columbia, was instantly killed' He was driving his horse and sulky about 2A miles from Columbia, when his horse sudden ly took fright, near iJachman's mill, and com menced running, crossing the railroad, where it is supposed lie fell from the sulky. The horse did not stop until he got to Mann's tavern, on the road leading from this city to Washington, a distance of about three miles, dragging Mr. Loekert along with his head on the ground and one of his feet fast between the axlortree and the shaft of the sulky. The back part ct his scud was broken and his brain escaped freely. THE PEW QUESTION AMONG THE METHODISTS. —-Yesterday this vexed question was settled by the General Conference. The various conflicting clauses of the discipline on the subject are erased, and a brief advisory pas sage, recommending free seats, substituted. The subject occasioned much debate, but was decided by a strong majority—7o for; 55 against it. This matter now stands as al ways contended it should stand. Free seats are advised, and powed ones, by implication, are tolerated. Many of our western brethren apprehend mischievous results from this change of the discipline, but they will.wehope, be agreeably disappointed. The store stand is undoubtedly one of the best in tiie country, being situate on the great avenue Centte arid Kishacoquillas Turn pike,) on which hundreds of thou.-aiids of bush els of grain are annually taken to market; the new turnpike from Milheim, in Centre county, intersects the Centre and Kishacoquillas road between the store and tavern, and this, now nearly finished, will largely increase the busi ness—so that few places offer more inducements to an enterprising business man than this. The location in other respects is highly favor able—being six miles from Lewistown, but a short distance from Brown's well known Mills, , convenient to Schools and Churches, and an un surpassed valley beyond, whose thrifty popula tion daily pass the door.
