It is from I lie very fact that Labor is usvecluble, that we wish to keep it so by ex eluding Slavery from our State." CCfI\O)IY.--The amount of money deposited i t the Savings lank of Great Britain is over J. •> 1.000.000 sterling, or more than one hundred millions of dollars This is an enormous amount of money, and is the savings of many who have labored hard, and by pursuing a habit of strict economy they have succeeded in maintaining themselves handsomely, and laid up a compe tency for old age. The question then arises, what is true economy ? In the exercise of econ omy it is essential to have good judgment—a cor rect notion of matters and things. Every indi vidual has in the course of a life time to purchase a large amount of goods, even if for his or her own support, merely. It will, in the course or \ears. amount to a considerable sum. Then the way to practice economy in this respect is to buy for CASH, as it is very dangerous to go in debt, particularly with the "storekeepers. Buy for CASH, and buy always GOOD GOODS, and at the lowest prices; and to enable the public to get goods of every grade and quality, at the lowest possible prices that they can be sold over the c>st of manufacturing, C. L. JOKES is conduct ing a large establishment on the CASH SYSTEM, and his business has now grown to such an enor mous extent that he buys nearly all his goods (i'rectly of the importers and manufacturers for cash, and sells them at the smallest considerable profits, and in this way he is enabled to sell his goods at least TWENTY run CENT, lower than all other merchants. Let any one make a calcula tion of the amount of goods they would proba bly buy in one year, and they will find that i? 0 percent. 01 one-fifth of the amount would be a considerable item. Let this run on for some years, and they w ill have a sum saved iu amount of no little consequence. It is now admitted by all other merchants, as well as by the public generally, that C. L. JONES lias the largest and best selected stock of goods ever shown before in Lewistown, and that he can undoubtedly buy goods cheaper than any other merchant —his business being so large and purchasing in such immense quantities. Country persons visiting Lewistown to pur chase goods for CASH will soon be convinced of the foregoing facts, by calling at the Celebrated .\tv Cheap Cash Store of C. L. JONES, and in pro portion to the population of this country with Great Britain, the amount cf savings might be quite equal, and probably greatly exceed the estimate made. THE MARKETS. Sales of Howard Street at .<§4,62 per barrel. CORN his declined, with sales ot white at 48c per bushel. WHEAT —SaIes of red at §1,06 per bushel. No material change in other articles. NEW COUNTERFEITS. —Delaware City Bank, Delaware City, Del. s's, altered from 2's.— Vignette of the two's and altered notes is a fe male holding in one hand a sickle, and in the other a bunch of wheat, at her side a sheaf, plough, &c. On right end a steamboat, and on left head of John Q. Adams. The true s's are wholly unlike these. MUTILATED BANK NOTBS.—The Cashiers of f-veral of the Banks of Philadelphia city and county caution the public not to receive their ; otes, either torn, mutilated or defaced, as some ingenious scamps have been cutting and tearing a given number of notes into fragments, and /uriing them together again in such away as to make an extiw note. The public as well as the Banks are deeply interested in putting a stop to this fraud. MARRIED. On Tuesday, sth ult., by Rev.
