Bursley, has fallen a prey to the fury of elements, and. from liie tenor of the last accounts respecting j„. r . a melancholy loss <>l life attends the j disaster. The Hottinguer sailed from Liv erpool for New York on the 10th of Jan uarv. She had 290 cabin and steerage ! passengers. together with the Captain and crew, of 30 men and hoys, and had a very fill freight of various descriptions of goods. She had only passed as far as Black water j hank, which is otf the coast of Wexford, when she struck on one of those danger mis ledges of rock which lie concealed in j that quarter. This occurred on the morn- , jag of the 12th of January On the oe- j curience of this mishap, a part of the crew and all the passengers were sent ashore, ('apt. Bursley and 13 of his men remained ( .n board, and, sad to relate, Capt. Bursley atid twelve of the noble band, who deter mined to be the last of the ship, met a u atery grave. The European Times announces an agreement between Jenny Lind and Mr. Uarnum for a professional visit of the form er to this country. In England a young girl attached to Womb well's Menagerie, and known as •• the Lion Queen,'* was killed by a Tiger, whose cage she was in the habit of enter uig. FRANCE. —Business progresses slowly in the Legislative Assembly. The Budget ;s still in Committee. The Chamber had j been for some time occupied with Mr. M. Balloux's education bill. The war against the press continues. The Reforme has been suspended, and Le . Presse seized. The weather throughout France, especially in the South, has been more rigorous than for many years. The Buenos Ay res expedition is said to be abandoned. PRUSSIA. —The threatened dissoluiion of the Cabinet appears to have been avoided bv some compromise. The King is now disposed to take the oath of the Constitu tion. The Erfurt Parliament is declared to be an imperious political necessity for Prus sia. in Wurteinberg there appears to be a change of opinion favorable to Russian influence. The IlawAerian Chamber refuses to recognize the Central Commission of Aus tria and Prussia. A constitution is recom mended for Germany. Austria is occupied with the numberless constitutions for her Provinces. The Pro vincial Diets are to be convoked in Octo ber, and that of the Empire will assemble mlB5l. ROME.—It is said that want of money prevents the Pope from returning to his capital, and that France has offered funds to his Holiness. The Archbishop Bour ses is said to be the bearer of this offer made in the name of the French aristcicra- CV. SARDINIA. —The Sardinian Chamber of Deputies have approved the treaty of peace •-oneluded at Milan between the Pied montese and the Austrians. It is expected die Senate will also approve it at Berlin. Negotiations for the treaty of peace at Denmark have been renewed. The Russians have resumed diplomatic relations with the Porte, it is expected that the Austrians will not be slow to follow. LIVERPOOL, Jan. 26. Commercial affairs generally still con tinue in a satisfactory state, but less buoy ant than a week ago. PkiiADiiL OCCURRENCE. —Me learn that a most melancholy accident occurred at the foot of Plane No. 5, on the Portage Railroad. A man engaged in Adams' foal Bank, went into a back building at tached to the dwelling of Mr. Adams, to t"-t some powder, eleven kegs of which being in the buiding at the time. His light went out, and in attempting to re-light it Ij v blowing be blew a spark into the powder, which ignited several kegs instant ly, causing a dreadful explosion, tearing the house literally to pieces. Mr. Ad ams, his wife and little child were in bed at the time. Mrs. Adams was killed in stantly by the falling of a stick of timber, fur husband and child escaping with little or no injury. The man who went into the house to get the powder was very badly hurt, but was living at last accounts. —HI air County Whig. The New York Tribune states that Prosper M. Wetmore on Saturday paid fifty thousand dollars in gold, which was deposited with the Sub-Treasurer, as a part of bis indebtedness to the Govern ment. He has promised to pay forty-two thousand more on Tuesday, out of the one hundred and eightv-ono thousand claimed by the Government.
