When fourteen years old ho entered tho offico of Ben jamin Barman, tl en tho publisher of tho Miners' Journal, a weekly paper, where he learned tho trade of printing. Ho was n favorite with Mr. IUnnan and was entrusted with the important work of setting up and correcting tlio coal tables, which, ns published in tlio Miners' Journal have long been noted for their freedom from typographical or other errors. Ramsey act ed ns Assistant Adjutant General, When Gen. Wbipplo, his commanding Oilicer, was ordered to join the Army of the Cumberland under General Thomas, he sought to havo Lieutenant Ramsey also transferred. He procured for 11 in a captain's commission, and al though ho failed to havo the transfer effected at that time, ( aptain Ramsey reported to Gen. Thomas for assign ment to duty Fehiuary 22, 18G4. When tho Atlanta campaign opened he took tha field as Acting Alde-do-Canip and Assistant Adjutant General to General Thomas, and served as such to tho closo of tlio war, leaving the servlco in Joly, 1800. In tlio meantime lie had been commissioned Major on the tecoinmen dntion ot General Thomas, and had re ceived from President Johnson commis sions by bievet of Lieutenant Colonel und Colonel. Llndsley, Esq., of Nashville, Tenn. Ho has had two children, only one of whom, a daughter, survives blio. Ho established tho Dally Miners' Journal September 1, 1808.
