A DISTRESSING ACCIDENT.
Ht ddoH Doath of Atr$. John McCoy.
A very Mt accident owurred in the south
ern end of the county lust Friday evening.
The particulars are: Mrs. Martha J. McCoy
and her hunliand, Mr. John McCoy, raiding in
Heeenria township, were returning home hurt
Friduy night from a visit to a sick neighbor,
and when descending a steep hill in the lane
near John H. Weld's residence, one of the
straps aUxit the haniesa broke. Mr. McCoy
was iu the act of getting out of the buggy to
repair the humcm when he tripped and fell
to the ground seiinelea, having fallen head
foremnnt. When eonscionsness returned, he
found Mm. McCoy lying on the ground a short
distance from him, the horse and the buggy
gone. He went to her, and asked her if she
was Imdly hurt, but received no reply to that
and other Interrogatories, He then called
her bv nninr, and still no reply. Afier some
difficulty tuaistonca was proenred, und she
was i-Arrifd to the nearest house. When car
ried in she was atill breathing, but died early
on Hatnrdny morning, speeehlc awl appar
ently unconscious ever since the full.
It is supposed that In reaching forward for
the linea Mrs. McCoy fell out, or else the
horse began kicking and she was thrown out
and fatally Injured. The horse returned
home and was found at the bam nnhanned
as ahm was the bnggy, neither receiving a
scratch. The accident occurred late in the
evening, probably between 9 and 1(1 o'clock
and within a half mile of their home. Mr.
McCoy was cwwidPrably bruised and at tinned
hut is recovering.
This is indeed a and bereavement, and one
that will be mourned In the vicinity where
he lived and was beat known.
Mi was buried rn tha cemetery at Ftah-
ville on Hunday last, and the esteem in which
she w ns held b? her neighlKira may he infer
red from tbe large funeral procession which
followed her remains to the tomb. There
were ninety vchlrlea In line, containing on
an estimate frur hundred people, with a large
number on hormbAck. and there were fully
five hundred persona about tbe grave before
the funeral cortege arrived. It waa the larg

FAIR QUESTIONS.
Mr. EtiiToK : I accident ly noticed a poster
purporting to tie a statement of our School
allium in this borough for 1""1. I am not
very well posted in figures, but I notice that
four mills for School purposes" raises f.a
more on the same property, that four mills
do for "Building purpose," Is it a blunder,
or is there a law that changes the mileage?
And "from all other sources" $.rIM is nearly
twenty percent of the w hole duplicate. But
no one can tell from whence this sum of
money came. "For other expenses" $J45 is
too big an item for a small town. We will
give more in detail in the future. The Treas
urer (who he is, the statement doea not set
forth,) must W a clever fellow, from the fact
that lie paid out $11.15 more than he re
