nncesnary, and we are gratified to learn that Gov.
(loary has conferred that trust upon John J. Lin

avail themselves of the "three days of grace'
usually allowed on such instruments.
Grand Pio-Nio. We understand
that preparations are being made, on a grand
scale, by the citiiens of Covington and Qirard
townships to hold S Pio-Nie in Frencbville, on
Tuesday, the lith of August. The resident of
those townships are proverbial for their hospitality,
and never do anything by halves. Those who
want to enjoy an old harvest home treat, can go to
no better place.

eral empty boxes to some of our youths, who,
liks little fish, nibble at every bait that drifts on
the surface. Tho purchaser would slip the box
into his pocket, after first coming down with the
"tin," and then quietly glide into some secluded
spot by bimelf to Count his greenbacks and inhale
the aroma uf his soap. But lo, and behold 1 neither
"queer" nor "soap" was to bo seen. Mr, Sharp,
learning that el t lien had started for an officer,
hastily closed np bis business and sloped. He wilt

, io the same business. Such fellows deserve to be
jugged, and It would bo well enough, for our
suthorities to "lay" for them in the future.
Attention, Voters! Much time is
left annually by those who seek to bo assessed
during September and np to within ten days be-'
fore the election, to finding tho Assessor, so as to
enable them to vote.
In order to let every voter know who and where
the Assessor or Register may be found, the County
Cemmisilnjieri have ordered every Assessor to sit
st his respective election house do Saturday, tho
30th day of September next, where all such who
have failed to be assessed, or registered will please
attend. The Commissioners hsre also furoiahed
a-V Assessor with hand-bills, which they are re
quired to post np In each Borough and Township,
in order to notify evory voter when and where to
fftttend. Jt la particularly enjoined upon tho As
sessor not to neglect this duty Tho Commission
ers will bo thankful to any eltiten who will report

Drownkd. A distrosoing case of
drowning occurred at Kenovft on Tuesday about
11 1-2 o clock a. m tbat east ft gloom over the
whole town. Mrs. Rex, a lady from Philadelphia,
who bad arrived the evening previous at the Re
nova House to spend the summer season, attempt
ed to crow the river in a skiff in eompany with ft
young girl between 13 and 14 named U I rich, on a
vutt to Uenova. The former lust the paddle while
in deep water, and in reaching to get it upset the
bout ai)4 botn were drowned. 1 no alarm was
given by tome littls girls, and assistance was soon
at nana, nut it did not save Lhera irom drain.

we are told, and tho little girl was in fortj two
minute. The husband of the lady was expected
on the train that night, with his two daughters,
but before he arrived the dead body of his wife
was on the return trip to the euy where sue had
but recently leA ft happy home, with the prospect
of a lung life before hor, and it may be that he
and the children, lull of Joytul anticipations ot
pleasure in their mountain retreat, unconsciously
passed upon the road the lifeless body of ths wife
and mother they were going to meet. The ease is

Case op Somnambulism. William
Scibert, a young man engaged as a telegraph
oporator In this city, unexpectedly found himself
in bis parent's front yard at ft Tory early'honr last
Saturday morning with ono arm broken and sev-'
eral severe euts aud bruises, and la his night
clothes. How lung ho had boon there ho nor any
body else knows, but when consciousness returned
he crawled to the front door and rang the bell, and
after establishing his Identityfor his parents had
known of his retiring to bed, and lading his door
fast, oould not at Bret believe It was him. A sur
vey of the situation left no doubt but that the
young man had" risen from his bed in bis sleep,
and leaped or fell from the window. His injuries
are severe, and it is wonderful that be escaped with

Bitten dt a IIokhb. Last Saturday
ft week, at Shlngletown, Mr. Benj. Stem, of Barrio
town hip, suffered ft severe casualty from being
bitten by a horse belonging to him.. It seems,
while at the blacksmith shop, tho horse becomiug
ferocious and unmanageable, seised Mr. Stem by
the forearm, hurling him to tho ground, ond leap
ing upon him. lie would undoubtedly have been
killed bad not tho bystanders driven off the horse
by severe blows. As It was his arm was severely
smashed, being bitten through and through, ond
both bones broken. Wo are glad to learn, how.

A large number of oitisens, together with the
brass band, repaired to tho Depot, where the
distinguished visitor was received by Ex-Oov-ernor
Bigler, on behalf of tho oitisens, in ft few
appropriate remarks, to which tho General
heartily responded. After which all separated
highly pleased. As tho General was "traveling on
time," ho passed on to Curwensville, ftnd dined
with CoL W. Ross Hartshorn, from whence a car
riage took him to B rook vi lie in tho afternoon,
whore be has ft son on the Engineer corps now
locating the low grade rail road.
A Singular Occurrence Bees on
tho Rampage. The Clinton Dtmocrat says: A
singular occurrence took plaoe on the farm of Mr.
Jeff. Caldwell, Bald Eagle township, ft few days
since. His bees left their hires without any appa
rent cauM, mad as hornets, on ft skirmish, and
made first for the dog and stung him to death.
They then betook themselves to the fields where
tho bonds were harvest in g and mule so furious an
attack upon tbo horses that men and beasts bad to
take shelter In the barn. Having whipped every
thing tn their way they went back to their hives.
