Clearfield county, nnd Messrs. Bill

tho" lower interests, Itavo agreed to
mciT-nt Williatiipjtnrt, Tuesday, Au.
2d, to examine the chore nnd consider
tho improvement needed lo render it
perfectly fafe during limes of crowds
' and high water. They will also ex-
nmino other landings that have been
uggosted, so ns to mako their selec
tiou with a view lo rendering tho
; futuro depot less hazardous to those
engaged in tho business.
Tt W e would suggest lo our neighbors
'j nt Lock Haven, that if they are in
earnest about retaining tho trade ut
i that placo, they should mature a plan
I of fixing the bhitro, secure tho means
I immediately to put it in n proper
S condition nnd invito nn interview
of the committee beforo any nrrango-
merit is perfected with tho citizens
nt any other locality.
!Tho general impression of our lum
bermen is, that tho Fpuco ut Lock
Haven is too limited for tho accotii
modalion of tlto business Hut it has
S been su,y;ested that room enough
covhl Le obtained by tho removal of
.Dickinson's Pocket Boom, und a good
1 substantial wharf built from tho Wul-
nuts down along tho shoro nearly to
' the hotel of Jlichal llunna; nnd by
' having a schuto built in the dam on
tho Lock Haven side, thus giving all
f raflti that are going through to the
lower markets nn opportunity to pass
i over lo tho right hand sido of the
river, nnd all rafts offering for sale or
. stopping to chnnge pilots, can land ns
. they now do on the Lock port side.
! In this way tho crowd will bo kept
7 down by the increased facilities for
emptying tho dam, a:.d less space
will bo required.
Our people have siilTered incurable
annoyance in addition to heavy losses
and serious detention for want of a
safe harbor to hold their timber,
while they chango jobhers or dispose
of it tf supply llio mills. Il is lo bo
hoped this movement will secure them
. better facilities than they have enjoyed
for many years.

The view from tho Ilig Fill, which
is about half way up the mountain, is

The various collerics, und recent

Tho party arriving nt Philipsburg,
lay over there a half hour, during
which timo they indulged in a promo

which afforded a pleasant relief, anil
enabled them to obtain a more intel

Our young friend, and former towns
man, 1. L. Krebs, F.sq , und his friend
Mr. liigler, met us ut l'hilipshurg
w ith a cardial welcome to their town,
and there joined our party. We hero
take pleasure in making an ncknowl
edgement of our obligations to Air.
Krebs for bis kindness nnd earnest
effort in our behalf, to which we nrc
certainly indebted for much of our
pleasure
On our nrrival ut Clearfield wo wero
greeted with u most cheerful welcome
by the citizens of our host. Tho lat
ter, Mr. Colburn, Proprietor of tho
Shaw House, whoso counlenanco al
ways beams with a pleasant smile.was
evidently glad to see us, nnd, in a
very short time, we wero ull assigned
to comfortable npartmunls, und were
feeling perleclly at homo.
After brushing off Iho dust of tho
ride, ut the summons of our host, we
uppcarod ut the dining room, and did
aniplo justice tonn elegantly prepared

At half past seven in tho evening,
tho citizens of tlto place, in keeping
with their well known reputation for
true hospitality and sociability, called
upon us in largo nuinbers.u lining whom
were tho lion. .Messrs. Higler, Uarret,
Wallace, Alt Kniislly, and others, nnd
Indies. And the young people, not to
bo excelled by the older ones in so
ciubleness, and in endeavoring to add
to our pleasure, came in largely, and
very agreeably to us, participated iu
the pleasures ol tho evening.
All arrnnircnients having been made,
and iho introductory salutations hnv-
nig been generally gono through Willi,
the variety of a hop was introduced
about nine o'clock, where ull those
who lipped the light fantastic enjoyed
themselves hugely, anil by which the
pleasures of tho evening wero much
heightened.
Lest there might be srimc one thing

conductive to our enjoyment, the
Clearfield band favored us with n ser
enade, discoursing sumo elegant mus

took advantage ol by keeping lime to
the same, in llio most pleasant way
possible.
On Saturday m. truing tho citizens
renewed their kindness by placing al
our disposul their carriages, driving
and showing us around the town nnd

thing was dono that could bo done by
the citizens fur our pleasure und en

think Unit they arc most justly enti
