On our nrrival ut Clearfield wo wero
greeted with u most cheerful welcome
by the citizens of our host. Tho lat
ter, Mr. Colburn, Proprietor of tho
Shaw House, whoso counlenanco al
ways beams with a pleasant smile.was
evidently glad to see us, nnd, in a
very short time, we wero ull assigned
to comfortable npartmunls, und were
feeling perleclly at homo.
After brushing off Iho dust of tho
ride, ut the summons of our host, we
uppcarod ut the dining room, and did
aniplo justice tonn elegantly prepared
supper, which he well knows bow to
get up.
At half past seven in tho evening,
tho citizens of tlto place, in keeping
with their well known reputation for
true hospitality and sociability, called
upon us in largo nuinbers.u lining whom
were tho lion. .Messrs. Higler, Uarret,
Wallace, Alt Kniislly, and others, nnd
Indies. And the young people, not to
bo excelled by the older ones in so
ciubleness, and in endeavoring to add
to our pleasure, came in largely, and
very agreeably to us, participated iu
the pleasures ol tho evening.
All arrnnircnients having been made,
and iho introductory salutations hnv-
nig been generally gono through Willi,
the variety of a hop was introduced
about nine o'clock, where ull those
who lipped the light fantastic enjoyed
themselves hugely, anil by which the
pleasures of tho evening wero much
heightened.
Lest there might be srimc one thing
lelX undone, which might Itavo been
conductive to our enjoyment, the
Clearfield band favored us with n ser
enade, discoursing sumo elegant mus
ic, some of w hich pieces tho dancers
took advantage ol by keeping lime to
the same, in llio most pleasant way
possible.
On Saturday m. truing tho citizens
renewed their kindness by placing al
our disposul their carriages, driving
and showing us around the town nnd
neighboring country. In short, every
thing was dono that could bo done by
the citizens fur our pleasure und en
joyment, ninl, to say tho least, we
think Unit they arc most justly enti
tled to the reputation for sociability,
hospitality and kindness that they en
joy. Wo left Clearfield happy, bo
