lul, as Mr. Clark Brown was descend
- ing the hill on tho "Antes road" with
t.a Joad of Shook, ono of his horses fell,
nd in this condition tho sled, horses
and driver went down the hill at a
furious rale, for a distance of 40 rods,
but finally stopped just in timo to
rerctit running into a loaded team
ning op the hill. Had a collision
occurred at this point thcro would
hare been some dead men and horses;
as it was, thcro is "nobody hurt,"
except tho horse which went down
the hill on its tide, which will probably
never recover from its injuries. Clark

Taot't K18IHNO. Our readores may
not be generally awaro of the fact
that the Legislature of Pennsylvania,
on the 21st of April, 1809, passed a
pretty stringent law for the protection
of trout. It prohibits the fishing for
them at nil seasons of the year, by any
other means or devices except by
hook and line, and forbids the captu
ring of them in that manner except
in the months of April, May, Juno and
July. Personsare positively prohibited
from fishing for them in any way
during any other time of tho year
The law imposes a penalty of five
dollars for a violation of its provisions
and, also, imposes penalty of five
dollars upon any officer neglecting
to make report of violations which
may come nndor his notice. The
officer ia also liable to be dismissed
from hi office for the same neglect.

A Good Collection. Wo learn that
tho Missionary collection taken up in
the IL E. Church in this place on
Sunday evening last, amounted to tho
snug sum of $-'33, and this too in the
face of an unfinished Church building.
The prosperity of this congregation
has been great during the past year,
under tbe charge of Bev. Mr. 1HII,
whom we are sorry to learn, is com
pelled on account of ill health to with
draw from actual clerical duties. His
loss will be much regretted by this
congregation.
Loyal Bepudiation. Thout;h the
obligations of this Mate, contracted
previous to 1802, wcro all payable, in
gold or silver, the Kadical Lcgmluturo
a few years ago repudiated those con
tracts and holders of bonds against
tho Stato had to take greenbacks for
their interest. Lately tho Supremo
Court decided that all debts contrac
ted previous to 1802 were payable in
specio : but in the fuco of this decision
the Commissioners of the Sinking
rund proposo will to pay with green
backs, and they havo no doubt adop
led this course uftcr consultation with
l'udical Legislators and other Iludical
officers at llarrinburir. They openly
proposo to repudiate the decision of

creek, near Pbilipshtirg, in the spring
of 1820. Filly years havo passed

to tho gushing beams of sunshine, nor

by the deadly saw dust of pine and

fish, and the now clearings were filled
with wild lurkoys ; tho bear and wild
cnt were among tho common sights of
tho wilderness; tho panther made his
lair in the neighborhood, and the blow

Tho fleet deer frequently rotnrned to
trespass upon the barnyard. The

family came bringinu- basket con
taining the essentials for a sumptuous
dinner. It was an occasion of mutual
congratulation between father and
sons, mother and daughters, uncles
and aunts, nephews and nieces. The
grandfather, the grandson and great

about 13 deaths have occurred 1 son,

and though taken by surpriso, the
