..HON. Z. I. PEARCE The democratic Press-in this dis trict atisterribly - exercised , ,iu :regard to the-conduct of the Hon. J. J. Pearce, towards one nfhiapolleaguei fiona this State,..nr. Mill Son, a short time since onthesrlbject of the Speakership:. Of course we cannot - and do - not, approve ofthEicnurse of May man-whe : woeld attetept ,bribe : another i betas Mr. Pearce flatly,,and pointedly denied the main charge - of bi 4 colleague, but ad mittedto a conversation between them, oaths subject, and there etlic imatter allowed to rest, we do not think that the charge is sufficiently substantiated to warradt any one in calling bribery. But for whatever there was wrong on the ,part of Mr. Pearce, in the cenver-. Ration between him and Mr. Mason, we think there are some palliating cir cumstances. It is well known that Bfr. Pearce, from his youth up to the campaign of 1854, was a member of the democratic party, and that party is so proverbially notorious for its bargain ing and selling propensities, in its National. State and County entire» , %ions, its members so expert in buying utl candidates and securing the sup port of the dissatisfied through promi ses and ottthrwise, that it would seem a little strange that if even Mr. Pearce had not learned something of their mode of doing business ; and of all men, we think un ter the ci rot mstancev, the loc.,fbcos should be the last to find fault with a man for endeavoring to secure support for his fliend through promises, nu matter of what nature. lf,Mr. Pearce was guilty of any im propriety at the time referred to, we stake our reputation on the assertion that it is - ,no more than every locofilco leader in every county in the Union has been guilty of a hundred times over, and there can be no sincerity in the loud brawlings of these political demagogues now against Mr. Pearce. ---ilfency Luminary. 0 i tti In Coudersport, on Friday last, Carl, infant sin of Amos and Sabra L French.
