C-- from die 2d reedom," Jan. 6 ,1855 NO. of the Kansu . "Herald of F Way in Printing this Humber. When we issued the first number of our paper from our old office in Penusylvania, in October last; we el pected to have been on the ground. in Kansas, and issued out second number as early as the first of Novem ber. Contrary to our expectations, an d probably to the great disappoint ment of onr subscribers, we were delayed in the time of our departure, waiting for a rise in the Ohio river, until the'very last of October. We Ivere then compelled to come-by rail inteoad, and were detained on the route procuring manal, and other catses, forsome twenty days; then we had t o wait ,until the first of December for, the arrival of our stock and material, a portion of which arrived on the last boat of the season. In the mean time we came to Lawrence and attempted to erect an office; but the scarcity of suitable timber prevented the erection ISa log cabin, and as the steam saw . will bad not got in full operation, we Could not get lumber. Bearing up as patiently,as we could under our many disanpoikments, we waited until we could get lumber, and have finally t uceeeded, by procuring a very large number of Nvar k eu , in the erection of a frame stricture eighteen by thirty feet on 1111 giound. and a story and a half in height. This was not com pleted until the tir"st of January, nev ertheless, we commenced distributing cur type on C bri guns evening, though there was no roof on the building. The building is made of green cotton wood boards, from fifteen to twenty inches in width. Unless we err, it will b( , . well ventilated by spring. We are ina aware of any causes wench can prowent our regular weekly a ppearance from this time forward. We have near four tons of paper, and a sutncient quantity of ink to. work it sa; hence the low ;tale of the rivers, outer similar causes, will be inope ratbe in our case. From the A,l):ltiy Joan:al. Mr. Strang, and to elect delegates to attend the County Educational Meeting at Coudersport on Monday evening of Conti week, in February nest. Adjourned. CYRUS. SLNDERLIN, Prat. E. D. CA RR, SCC.y. ®'Soule has given up his grand idea of acquiring Cuba, and is about to loturn to the United States. TO TAE POINT.—The Vibung • of Monday refers thus pointedly to, that slavocratic- squirtguu, :the Richmend Examiner: We hare hitherto been wont to consider the Richmond, Examiner, as . a pretty smart specimen of• a journal for Virginia, but we begin to see that it is as slow and stupid as any of its easy aed lazy colleagues .in that de , caying old nursery or slaves and slave breeders. As a part of the cur rent news of the day, the Examiner 07 the 12th inst. publishes a paragraph from the Tribune of Friday, Sept. Ist —four mouths and a half ago—and then goes on to rejuice over the de- elite and downfall of this journal.. Our nigger-vending cotemporary would du well to spare its exultations. The Tribune has; at this day, 168,000 sub scribers, (about as many we suppose, as the entire press south of Mason and Dixon's line,). or several thousand more than it had at the date at which the Examiner fixes the epoch of its decadence.. It, has become, we think, one of the permanent institutions of the country, and stands a fair chance to flourish- in vigor long after -slavery is abolished,, and the Examiner and all other organs of Virginia Loco Focoism and slavebreeding have died oat and been forgotten. GIVE US THE HAI! LAW The State Prohibitory Convention comes off on Wednesday. This will also be largely attended; Temperance representatives, `good Men and true' being expected -from all parts of the Commonwealth. Their deliberations will, doubtless, go far to influence the future acion of the Legislature; upon the Maine Law. We say, giro us this Law for the State ! first, diecause the Temperance men, by the terms of the late contest, are fairly entitled to it; and secondly, because the moral, political „rd financial v.V.rtre of the people impera tively and loudly demands it.—.3.finrrs' Jour nal. We hope every paper. in the State that desires to dry up the fountain of misery and crimerwill unite in asking the Legislature to give us the Maine Law for the whole State.
