The same will apply to this section " Mad dogs were never so plentiful as now. In fact, the city fairly swarms with them. We do know that the lives of cit izens depend upon the course which the proper authorities may see fit to take in. regard to this important matter, for impor:. tant it certainly is. We therefore most respectfully, but most earnestly, invite the attention of his . Honor, the Mayor to the subject, and hope he will at once take such steps as will lead to the suppression of what is now to be regarded not simply as a most intolerable nuisance, but a source of continual apprehension and danger to citizens, and more especially to women and children. It is high time that the jthou sands of good-for-nothing curs which are met in every portion of the city were dis posed of, and the only effectual way of get ting rid of them is to hand them over to the dog-catehers. Already a number of persons have been bitten. Whether fatal results will follow, cannot of course be de termined now, but the probabilities are that such will be the ease. Let the dog nuisance be abated, and that speedily, in order that no more lives may be sacrificed and that citizens may be enabled to walk the streets without the apprehension of :being attacked and bitten by a rabid cur." The Young-Dana Scandal. As we expected, fuller accounts from New York tend to'ruitigate the gross and exaggerated impressions concerning the conduct of Mr. Young of the Tribune, which the first dispatches were calculated to produce. The only serious charge which can be sustained against Mr. Young is that he did clandestinely send the As sociated Press dispatches to the Philadel phia Post. But this, as a western con temporary well remarks, is no worse than what the New York Associated Press has done itself, when it furnished dispatches to the commercial news agency before de livering them to the western press accord ing to contract. Mr. Young in trying to establish the Philadelphia Post on a firm basis, did " strike" various politicians for money to aid him in his effort; bat we fancy this is nothing so very startling nor *even so very dishonorable. There seems to be no good reason why partisan jour nalists who are poor should not seek aid from influential men of precisely the same shade of politics who are rich. If the vail were lifted, which hides the actions of men, it would be found that. perhaps the majority of party journals have been guilty of this sin, if it be one. As to the charge against Mr. Young of "selling the influence of the Tribitnc;" it is not Su-s -tained by the letters published, and is probably untrue. While the course of public opinion is thus tending to palliate the conduct of Mr. Young, it is setting rather heavily, against the conduct of Mr. Dana, in prostituting his paper to the base use of publishing private correspondence. The letters on which the charges against Mr. Young are founded were made public by an act of the basest treachery and ingratitude on the part of the person to whom they were written. Dana allowed himself to become a party to this treachery, partly in order to create &sensation at any-cost, and partly we fear, from a desire to revenge himself on the Tribune Association for his own. ejection thence, some years ago, for conf. spirin,g, it is said, to usurp Greeley's place. There is danger that the Sun will under go somewhat of an eclipse for a time on account of this malicious "shine."—Pitts burg Dispatch. Destruction of the Mammoth Skating Rink by girt. - The destruction of the Mammoth Skating Rink, at Twenty-first and Race streets, Philadelphia has caused a feeling of versal regret. The building itself was not only one of the finest and largest of its kind in the country, but the establishment bad come 'to be regaided as one of the inSti: tutions of the city.
