THE EDITORIAL TREADMILL — The /Tome ,Journal tbus describes the editors :burdens: "It is one of the hardships of pur profession that its working-wheels— brains and heart—are not allowed to lag for sickness, or to stop for calamity or sorrow. The judge may adjourn his pourt, the school and the worksh , p may ,close shutters, the mourner may veil his features, and turn friend and stranger from the door; but the journalist must forget )2,afpre to-morrow the sorrows of to-day, must write gaily and freshly as a newsmonger on the trifle of the hour, whatever burden has been laid upon that same hour by Providence, or his brains as a man. It sometimes tries and mocks as Ihe world that reads what is thus written would never dream of. The public looks upon the editor's labors as the Indian did upon the man that was putting hay. lie finally gave as his opinion that it was 'easy to see the white man mow." illr. Brown Stout. The following will be immensely in teresting to drinkers of English beer : "A celebrated brewer in London had, in his employ, a fat porter by the name of Stout. pne day Stout was missing, and they knew nothing of him for several weeks. In the meantime, his London customers plied him with orders for more beer like the last supplied. The brewer was at a loss to know in what consisted the superiority of that particular brew ing until the beer was all drawn from the vat, when, to their astonishment and horror, they found the remains of poor Stout. Ho had fallen into the vat of hot beer, and been scalded to death. The citizens of London had drunk him up, with.the exception of the parts not solu ble in * water; nothing was left of him but his hair, toe and finger nails, and the bones. This circumstance gave the name to-that particular kind of liquor, known al:Brown Stout, which has established for itself a world-wide celebrity, and is gold in all parts of the civilized world at fabulous prices." " ATTENTION, SOLDIERS OF OUR LATE Aran''."—Many Discharged Soldiers have claims of which they have no knowledge. By sending for a Circular to L. Brown ct, Co., :of No. 2 Park Place, N.
