He is a gentlemanly and efficient officer, always faithful and prompt in the discharge of official duty. We be lieve he does not entirely sever his connec tion with the road as he will hold the po sition of General Agent over the Transpor tation Department of the various branches at Philadelphia, which gives him a wider field for his labors and probably better suited to his failing health. Alfred Willard made com:rlaint against Louis L. ondenberger for assault and bat tery. The facts appear to be the following: On Christmas day the complainent togeth er with a number of other welshmen de sired to have a high old ClaristmAs, , and went to several beer houses for that par pose, they finally came to Conrad. Myers' beer hoUse on sth street, where they met a party of germans who hid been on a sim ilar expedition. The defen.hint, one of their number, had beer enough in him to to make him feel strong, and accordingly he offered to bet ten dollars that he could outlift, or throw any man in the room.— There being no object near, smaller than a two-story house, they concluded not to attempt to lift that, but they would wres tle. The defendant stepped up to com plainant and shipped him in the 'lien, whereupon the latter gave the former a complete whipping, placing his . eyes in mourning. When the defendant was brought before the Justice, he seemed to think that his strength had left him. As that was a cross action, the Justice seamed to think that the whole affair had better be ventilated at Court, where all, parties would be punished in such a manner that the offence would not be repeated by them very soon again. The parties were bound over to answer at January sessions. Conrad Myers was brought up by Con stable Mcf7rinnk, upon complaint made by John Aurelius, Sr., for selling lager on Sunday the 24th day of December 1565. A number of witnesses were examined but they failed to recollect that they over saw defendant sell beer on Sunday. Defend ant discharged. There ware two other suits against same defendant for selling beer to minors, and selling beer without license. Both suits were dismissed for want of evidence. John Aurelius, Sr., also made complaint against Valentine Mack for selling beer to minors. Defendant discharged. WE have received a copy of the ..4merican , citizen, of April 1831, puplishod inPhiladelphia. Among its items we find the following, copied from the Spy of April sth 1834. "With the opening of the rail-road be tween this and Lancaster, and the events connected With the tirst of April, there has been no lack of subjects to converse about the past week. • On Monday, three horse cars, with pas sengers, arrived here trom Lancaster, on the rail-road. They returned in one hour and a quarter—distance about 11 miles. On Wednesday, the locomotive made its first trip to this place, with three passen ge r cars in train. On Thursday, and yesterday the horse cars were out; and yesterday afternoon the locomotive again made its appearance with a train of cars attached. Time 57 minutes. The engine for the inclined plane at this place is hourly expected to arrive. The Pith of April is the day appointed for the opening of the road the whole distance between this and Philadelphia. It is ex pected that a train of cars wilt leave this borough on the morning of that day, pro ceed to the City, and return on the day following. Among the arrivals by the rail-roa.d yes terday, were between nifty and sixty me chanics from Massachusetts. who had been sent out by the Boston Coal Com pany to work their mines in Lycoming County in this state. They were a sot of young, hardy and enterprising looking men, and no doubt could, if occasion re quired, (like many who have preceecled them,) digest saw-dust pudding and ten penny; nails. Tne genuine can be known by the name BRYAN being stamped on each Wafer. The medical proper ties are superior to any other articles offered for the cure of Pulmonaryor Bronchial affections, and the quantity contained in each box is nearly dou ble that of that of the many worthless imitations advertised. Bryan's Pulmonie Wafers cure Coughs, Colds, Sore Throat, Hoarseness, Asth ma, Catarrh. Bronchitis, Difficult Breathing, Spit ting Blood, Pains in the Chest. Incipient Consump tion and all diseases of the lungs. Not only afford ing temporary relief, but effecting a rapid and last ing cure and arc warranted to give satisfaction in every instance. To Vocalists and Public Speakers, these Wafers are peculiarly valuable: they . will In one day re move the most severe ocedsional hoarseness : and their regular use for a few days will, at all times, increase the power and flexioility of the voice, greatly improving its tune, compass and clearness, for which purpose they are regularly usod by many professional vocalists. Secretary. Ayer's Sarsaparilla Al compound remedy, clesigned to be the most effectual Alterative that can be made. It is a concentrated extract of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined - with other substances of still greater alterative power as to afford an effec tive antidote for the diseases Sarsaparilla is reputed to cure. It is believed that such a remedy is wanted.by those who suffer from Strumous complaints, and that one which will accomplish their cure must prove of immense service to this large class of our afflicted fellow citizens. How completely this compound will do it has been proven by experiment on many of the worst cases to be found of the following complaints : SCROFULA AND SCROFULOUS COMPLAINTS, ERUPTIONS AND ERUPTIVE DISEASE 3, Pinrr.ns, BLOTCHES, TUMORS. SALT RHEUM, SCALD lIEAD, SYPHILIS AND SYPHILITIC At , - TECTIOXS, MERCURIAL DisEssE, DROPSY, NEU RALGIA Olt Tic DOULOUREUX, DEBILITY, DYS PEPSIA AND INDIGESTION, ERYSIPELAS, ROSE On ST. ANTHONY'S FIRE, and indeed the whole class of complaints arising from Lunt= op THE 13Loon. This compound will be found a great pro moter of health, when taken in the spring, to expel the foul humors which fester in the .bloOd at that season of the year. By the time ly expulsion of them many rankling disorders are nipped in the bud. Multitudes can, by the aid of this remedy, spare themselves from the endurance of foul eruptions and ulcerous sores, through which the system will strive to rid itself of corruptions, if not assisted to do this through the natural. channels of the body by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated blood whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in pimples, eruptions, or sores; cleanse it when you -find it is ob structed and sluggish in the veins ; cleanse it whenever it is foul, and your feelings will tell you when. Even where no particular disorder is felt, people enjoy better health, „tuul live longer, for. cleansing the blooth -Beep the blood healthy, and all is well; but with this pabulum of life disordered, there can be no lasting health. Sooner or later something must go wrong, and the great machinery of life is disordered or overthrown. Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, the reputation of accomplishing these ends. But the world has been egregiously deceived by preparations of it, partly because the drug alone has not all the virtue that is claimed for it, but more because many preparations, pretending to be concentrated extracts of it, contain but little of the virtue of Sarsaparilla, or any thing else. During late years the public have been mis led by large bottles, pretending to give a quart of Extract of Sarsaparilla for one dollar. Most of these have been frauds upon the sick, fur they not only contain little, if any, Sarsapa rilla, but often no curative properties whatev er. Honce, bitter and painful disappointment has followed the use of the various extracts of Sarsafiaiiila which flood the market, until the name itself is justly despised, and has become synonymous with imposition and cheat. Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend to supply such a remedy as shall rescue the name front the load of obloquy which rests upon it. And we think we have gronnd for believing it has virtues which are irresistible by the ordinary run of the diseases it is intend eA to cure. In order to secure their complete eradication from the system, the remedy should be judiciously taken according to directions on the bottle. E=MUI J. C. AYE Et & CO. LOWELL, MASS.
