WORD To VOLT N 004 who,
minced by high bounties, are lea:Ving the
county, and permitting themselves to be

ber that the County Commissioners must,
of course, refuse to permit the families of
such persons to be supported out of the
fund for the relief of the 11.1 wit ies of volun
teers. This is a matter of grave considera,

have families dependent upon them for
support.—Heratd.

burg to charter the Reading and Columbia
Telegraph Company , books have been
opened and already quite a number of
shares have been taken. Wo believe It has
no connection with the Rail Road company
notwithstanding it will be of great bene

there will be no doubt of Its success.
WILLIAM U. TlEss, has received orders
to report immediately all persons enrolled
in the Borough of Columbia who have
since the last enrollment arrived at the
age of 45 years or will arrive at that age on
or before the 10th of the present month, as
all such persons are entitled to be stricken
from the roll, and will not then be liable to
draft. Better attend to the matter without
delay, or some difficulty may occur If such
persons are drafted. All such persons
should report Immediately to Wm. U. Hess.
nCTURNING.—SeveraI regiments have
returned to the army of the- Potomac this
week, their furlough having expired.—
Next week the 45th will leave for the seat
of war. It is now filled to overflowing—
they go with Gen. Ilurnside's 9th Army
corps who in all probability will go to the
extreme South. The government now
needs all tharivetemns to go to the front,
as au early movement will bo mime ; and
it is urged on all whose furloughs have ex
pired or about to expire to report for duty
without delay as their Immediate service
Is required.

Provost Marshal of this district has been
removed, and ordered to report in. the In
valid corps at Washington. We believe it
was at the Captains own request he was re
moved. Maj. Thaddeus Stevens Jr., has
been appointed to fill lhe vacancy. This
is a good appointment ana seelns to give
universal satisfaction.
COMPLETION OF READING AND
COLUMBIA RAILROAD.—In a few days
the Reading and Columbia Railroad will
be opened its entire length, and will be
ready for through business in a short
time thereafter, when the entire chain of
a new inland railroad route, from New
York to Washington, will be complettd.
Notwithstanding the unfavorable times,
the scarcity of labor, and the state of our
country, this very important link of rail
road connections has been pushed for
ward to completion. The thanks of our
citizens are certainly due to the contrac
tors who have been untiring in their ef
forts to complete the work; and we have
no doubt but that they will reap the re
ward they so richly merit.
