lid slept none for three nights, was asleep, he complained of nausea, and ordered his boy, Jiro, to place a wet towel over his sto mach. This was done. About daylight the surgeon was awakened by the boy saying "the General is in great pain." The pain was in the right side, and due to incipient pneumonia and some nervousness, which he himself attributed to the fall from the litter. On Thursday Mrs. Jackson arrived, greatly to his joy and satisfaction, and she faithful ly nursed him to the ettd. By Thursday Ocnicg all his pain had ceased. Ile suf ;wed greatly from prostration. On Friday he suffered no pain, but prostration in creased. On Sunday morning, when it was appa rent that he was rapidly sinking, Mrs. Jack son was informed of his condition. She then had free and full converse with him, and told him ho was going to die. He said; "Very good; very good. It is all right."— He had previously said: "I consider these Wounds a blessing. They were given me for some good and wise purpose. I would hot part with them if I could." Ho asked tlf Major Pendleton: "Who is preaching nt headquarters to-day?" Ho sent messages to all the generals. He expressed a wish to be buried in Lexington, in the valley of Vir ginia. During delirium his mind reverted to the battle field, and ha sent order to Gen. A. P. IEII to prepare for action, and to Ma jor Hawkes, his Commissary, and to the surgeons. He frequently expressed to his aids the wish that Major General Ewell should be ordered to command his corps.-- His confidence in Gen. Ewell was very great, and the manner in which he spoke of him showed that he had duly considered the matter, Experiences of Prisoners Taken at Fredericksburg,. One of the eighty officers taken on the Rappahannock, and just released on parole till exchanged, furnishes the following de tails of their experience! When they had marched about five miles on the road to Gordonsville, a courier met them, who in formed their guard that Stoneman was in that vicinity, whereupon they were marched tack again. They then took a fresh start toward Rich mond, but were again stopped by another courier with the same intelligence. Con iiderable anxiety and apprehension were trvinted as to Stonernan's exact whereabouts. The third time they proceeded by a circui• tons route, arriving at Spottsylvania Court dfdtmci on Sunday night. 1 001. Miller, rebel commander at this place, tried to procure food fur them, but failed, there being none obtainable fur his owu mon, who said they had nothing to eat since the preceding Saturday at noon. The next morning they were marched fifteen miles to Guineas Station, where they were put into an open field in a hard rain. and kept there all night. On Tuesday, u barrel of flour was issued to them, to be baked and divided 113 best they could among the wli de number, which was the first morsel of any kind they had partaken of since their capture--nearly three days. The next night they were put in n rail road car and taken to Richmond, receiving jeers and insults in profusion at the several stations, the women being. particular abus ive. Arriving at Richmond, they were put in a prison guarded by citizens with old 'muskets., some of which were not loaded. On Sunday, Governor Letcher, Breckin ridge (brother to Gen. J. C. Breckinridge), and others visited the prison. Lete:mr said, in the course of conversation, that "Lincoln could have closed this thing. if he had desir ed lung ago," and that he called on Prasi olent Lincoln himself before Virginia went •out, but to no purpose. General Hayes re marked: "Suppose Douglas had been elect ed, what would have been d, no ?" Breekinridge replied that he and the South had been Disunionists for fifty years, and they were bound to have Disunion anyhow —all that they asked was to be let alone, not wishing to harm us. "This is the gen eral feeling here," he added. On their way to City Point they were not allowed to ride in the cars to Petersburg, though they were running• empty, and were marched a dis tance of twenty-two miles. After considerable persuasion. General Hayes, Lieutenant E. L. Ford and Lieuten ant Lee succeeded in hiring a carriage for forty dollars in greenbacks to convey them some ten miles. Jim. Harrison, the actor, told one of our officers that Stoneman could eeasily have come into Richmond with three ;hundred men, done much damage, and car ried off many spoils, beside liberating the -prisoners. Ile said it was the narrowest c escape the rebels have had during the war. nfiir•We bad occasion, a few days since, to - , purchase a new pair of boots, an operation ,wa always dread as a boy would a whip ,ping. But compelled by necessity, we screwed our courage to the sticking place, .-and went to our worthy firiend opposite, -who, to our utter astonishment, fitted us the - first trial. Ho very coolly remarked, that .'he done the same thing nineteen times out of twenty," and that whenever he bad a „cough or cold. ho used Bryan's Pulmonic :Wafers, end they cured him as often.
